The following contains spoilers for Episode 15 of Spy x Family, “A New Family Member”, now streaming on Crunchyroll
The anime community’s favorite family just got a little bigger in Episode 15 of Spy x Family, with the Forger’s official adoption of Anya’s canine rescuer as their family pet. This much-anticipated addition has been in the making over the course of the past few episodes, and now that Loid and Yor have welcomed the appropriately named Bond into their home, the fit could not be any more perfect.
While exciting, Bond joining the Forger family is no surprise to viewers. When Anya first meets Bond, whom she first calls “Mister Dog,” in Episode 13, their ESP powers combine to share the image of the Forger family excitedly welcoming their new pet, providing a glimpse into a happy future. As Anya and Mister Dog work together to overcome multiple run-ins with a dangerous terrorist organization, their immediate bond further proves that Mister Dog is destined to be Anya’s furry companion.
Anya Welcomes Home Bond, a Fellow Spy-In-Training
With Keith finally captured thanks to “housewife” Yor’s stellar combat skills, Loid and Yor express their excitement to continue searching for the perfect puppy for Anya. However, Anya has already met her perfect match: the hairy giant that Keith had planned on using as a bomb dog. While she originally wants a small adorable puppy, Anya knows that Mister Dog is the companion for her, as she already bonded with him through their misadventures and similar ESP abilities.
When Loid protests and Handler-in-disguise comes to collect Mister Dog, Anya puts her foot down, threatening to enter her rebellious stage far too early and risk Loid’s mission. While most kids are veterans in manipulating parents to get what they want, Anya has an even greater advantage with her telepathy and knowledge of Operation Strix’s high stakes. Mister Dog’s adoption is official, and all Anya has to do is wait for her new best friend to finally come home.
As the episode continues, Anya recognizes her mission: finding a name worthy of Mister Dog. After struggling, Anya realizes that Mister Dog reminds her of her beloved hero Bondman, both in heroics and appearance, decidedly naming him Bond. This name could not be any more perfect for the Forger’s family pet, as it pays homage to undoubtedly the most famous fictional spy, James Bond.
Bond Fits Right in With the Patchwork Family of Misfits
Given the nature of the Forger family, Bond’s adoption story truly is touching. Anya could have easily chosen a cute lapdog from a pet shop or breeder, but she adamantly wants Bond, an older dog with a rough background. By adopting Bond, the Forgers are providing him something that he has never had: a warm home, a loving family and a new life full of joy and memories just waiting to be made.
Bond’s adoption also further reflects the nature of the Forger family. While Loid crafts his makeshift family as part of Operation Strix, he unknowingly provides them each with something they didn’t have before. Yor gets a doting husband, an adorable daughter, and job security as the Thorn Princess. The previously orphaned Anya gets two loving parents and a brighter future. Bond finds himself in a friendly home full of fun and snuggles. Loid’s goal may be keeping the peace between Westalis and Ostania, but he has brought an even greater peace to the individuals he has brought together to be a family.
Now that Bond has found his perfect family and a perfect name, fans can look forward to watching him and Anya get themselves in and out of all sorts of shenanigans in coming episodes. Even when their wild energy overwhelms Loid, the no-nonsense spy will have no choice to be just as charmed as fans are by the duo’s sweet friendship.
