My Hero Academia, Chainsaw Man and Demon Slayer Land Top Spots on NYT Bestseller List

Manga continues dominating the New York Times Bestsellers list, with My Hero Academia, Chainsaw Man and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba all cracking the top ten.

According to the publication’s latest list of graphic books and manga bestsellers, Vol. 33 Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia claimed third place, falling behind Moon Rising by Tui T. Sutherland and Collaborations by Dav Pilkey. Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man Vol. 1 ranked sixth, with Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba coming in ninth.

My Dress-Up Darling, Spy x Family Crack NYT Best Seller Top 15

While they did not make the top ten, two other manga volumes managed to break into NYT’s top fifteen for best-selling graphic novels and manga. Vol. 7 of Shinichi Fukuda’s My Dress-Up Darling, a series that follows the cosplay and romantic adventures of two passionate high school students, placed 12th. At the same time, Vol. 1 of Tatsuya Endo’s Spy x Family, a comedic and action-packed story about a found family made-up of a spy, an assassin and a mind-reading child, ranked 14th.

Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia series, which recently passed the impressive milestone of 85 million copies in circulation around the world, debuted in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in July 2014. Set in a world where most people have a superpower called a Quirk, the story follows Izuku Midoriya, an earnest and courageous high school student who was born Quirkless, as he endeavors to become the greatest hero of all time. The series has a plethora of fans, including multiple prominent celebrities; notably, Grammy Award-winner Megan Thee Stallion showed off her incredible Mirko cosplay towards the end of last year.

The Chainsaw Man manga first appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in December 2018 before moving to Shōnen Jump+ in 2020, where it continues its serialization to this day. The plot focuses on an extremely poor youth named Denji, who works deadly jobs to pay off a massive debt. However, when he is betrayed by his gangster employers, he finds himself recruited by a shady government organization. Like many My Hero Academia fans, some Chainsaw Man fanatics show their love for Fujimoto’s series by creating incredible cosplay, with GraysonFin’s broody take on Kishibe being a recent example.

Gotouge’s dark fantasy manga published its first chapter in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in February 2016. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a kind-hearted boy whose peaceful life drastically changes after his sister, Nezuko, is transformed into a demon.

VIZ Media distributes all three manga series in North America.
