A mysterious countdown on Berserk’s official website has been counting down since the beginning of October, with only 12 days remaining at the time of writing.
The counter started at 69 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes and 44 seconds. As the countdown wound down, Behelit’s eyes slowly opened over time. There’s no indication of why the countdown is happening or what fans can expect. However, that hasn’t stopped Berserk fans from hoping for the best, with some speculating it could somehow relate to the announcement of the manga’s final arc or perhaps even news of the 1997 anime streaming on Netflix.
One fan, Kotoa Matsukami (ShisuisCrow), wrote, “I hope this is season 3 of the latest anime, done with current 3D techniques, and traditional 2D animation. The last one didn’t look great but, the story was GREAT. Come on, it’s Berserk! I still rewatch that thing.” While another speculated, “This probably countdown to eclipse” before adding, “Or maybe this is a countdown to a decent black swordsman/lost children arc movie/anime.” That fan, LIDA (BasedLIDA) received over 500 likes on both of their tweets.
The Manga Returned From Hiatus This Year
Regardless of what the announcement entails, this has been an excellent year for Berserk fans, with the series’ return following the untimely death of its creator Kentaro Miura. After Miura died in 2021, the series went on a hiatus until the publisher decided his close friend and fellow manga artist Kouji Mori would take over writing the story. Mori revealed he would base the story on conversations with Miura before his passing. Additionally, Miura’s former assistants from Studio Gaga would continue handling the artwork for the manga series. Berserk fans celebrated the manga returning from its hiatus with fan art, among other things.
Berserk began as a manga series written and illustrated by Kentaro Miura. The manga takes place in a medieval Europe-inspired world, with the story following Guts and Griffith, a lone swordsman and leader of the mercenary group “Band of the Hawk,” respectively. Guts was born from a hanged corpse and raised to be a mercenary by his abusive adoptive father Gambino. Guts eventually frees himself from Gambino’s clutches, fleeing from the mercenary group and becoming a sellsword. Guts’ infamy catches the attention of Griffith, leading the two to band together as Guts joins “Band of the Hawk.” A series of unfortunate events occurred to the group after an event known as “Eclipse” began.
With just over two weeks left before the big announcement drops, fans can catch up with the Berserk manga by purchasing all the volumes through Dark Horse or Amazon’s ComiXology. In addition, Aniplex recut the Berserk anime movies for airing on TV as a “Memorial Edition,” which fans can stream through Prime Video or Crunchyroll.
