One TikTok user takes their design skills to the next level with Pokémon sneakers.
@techlifestyle.pe, a TikTok user specializing in technology, shared a short clip of their new designer sneakers, which Generation I Ghost/Poison-type Gengar inspired. The scary sneakers are fully decked out in purple and include an illustration of Gengar. Additionally, a tube on the front connects to a vial containing purple liquid, which causes the shoes to emit a purple mist.
The TikTok user captioned the video, “Something new is cooking,” with a chef emoji. They also placed the label “Toxic AF” on the spooky sneakers. Some people in the comments argued Gengar’s first form, Gastly, would have been a better choice for inspiration considering the Pokémon’s poisonous gas exterior. According to Nintendo, Gastly’s body is 95 percent toxic gas, and the remaining five percent are the souls of those who died from inhaling the fumes.
In celebration of Halloween, The Pokémon YouTube channel posted a clip of a frightened trainer from Naranja Academy’s Ghost-type Pokémon Club scouring for Ghost-type pocket monsters in a horror movie-style video. The unnamed trainer encounters a Gengar and a Mimikyu before discovering the new Generation IX Pokémon Greavard. While seemingly adorable, Greavard’s looks can be deceiving. As shown in the trailer, the Ghost-type pocket monster “will slowly and inadvertently absorb the life force of those around it.
Pokémon Fans Love Gengar
In January 2021, a Gengar-themed pillow hit the shelves. The creepy pillow features the Pokémon’s long tongue, which people can either use as a blanket and wrap themselves with or as a comfortable pillow. Like Gastly’s frightening description, Gengar fittingly steals people’s souls, and its body acts as a heat sink, cooling temperatures around it as it absorbs the warmth around it. The Gengar pillow fascinated social media and caused the item to sell out only 30 minutes after preorders began.
In the past, The Pokémon Center has released several outlandish plushies, including life-size pocket monsters. In September 2022, the online shop debuted a $499.99 Spheal plush that stands at about 2 feet and 6 inches tall and weighs 16 lbs. Other life-sized Pokémon plushies include Cyndaquil, Oshawott, Snorlax and a Lapras big enough to ride on like World Champion Pokémon Master Ash Ketchum. To coincide with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s release date, Amazon Japan also released several items, including a Lechonk piggy bank.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
