Pokémon Meme Argues Ash’s Most Supportive Fans Are… Team Rocket

Team Rocket secretly showed their support for Ash Ketchum during his showdown against Leon in Pokémon Ultimate Journeys.

The grand finale of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys depicted Jesse, James, Meowth and Wobuffet attending the championship match, which secured Ash the World Champion title after beating Leon in the Masters Eight Tournament of the Pokémon World Coronation Series. While Team Rocket purchased tickets for the match, one Reddit post discussed how several key players in Ash’s journey failed to show up. Those absent from the Pallet Town native’s huge accomplishment included his mother and Professor Oak, who stayed home and watched the match.

Even after parting with his friend, they’re always there for him from wholesomememes

The iconic Pokémon trainer has come a long way since he embarked on his journey with his companion, Pikachu. 25 years after leaving Pallet Town, Ash finally became the World Champion during Episode 132, “The Finals IV: Partner” of Ultimate Journeys. Many new and longtime Pokémon fans rushed to social media to congratulate Ash on his recent achievement. One Twitter user pointed out Leon forgot to put his cap on backwards, which led to his demise.

Sarah Natochenny, the English dub voice actor for Ash, also praised the trainer for his huge accomplishment. “I can’t wait to share the English dub of this episode of Pokémon with the world. What an absolute honor to be voicing Ash Ketchum as he becomes a world champion,” she wrote. At 19 years old, Natochenny replaced Veronica Taylor to voice the Pokémon protagonist, starting with the anime’s ninth season in 2006.

In addition to becoming World Champion, Ash beat Gladion at the Alolan region’s Manalo Conference, which granted him his first ever Pokémon League Champion title. With the trainer’s numerous achievements, some wonder what else is in store for Ash. With no announcement of a Generation IX anime, it’s unclear if the franchise will retire Ash and Pikachu.

While Ash’s tremendous success is exciting for fans, some theorized Ultimate Journeys could be close to the finish line following the leak of the titles for episodes 133, 134 and 135. Episode 135 is allegedly named “Pokémon, I’m Glad I Chose You!,” which some believe references the first episode of the original anime titled, “Pokémon – I Choose You!”

Most of the Pokémon anime franchise is available to stream on Netflix. Episode 135, “Pokémon, I’m Glad I Chose You,” premieres in Japan on Dec. 9.
