Masashi Kishimoto first published his award-winning manga series in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1999, with the final chapter appearing in the magazine in 2014. The narrative focuses on Naruto, a young ninja with an affinity for the color orange and a dream to become the leader of his ninja village. Training alongside his teammates — Sasuke and Sakura Haruno — under the tutelage of their Jounin Instructor, Kakashi Hatake, the trio battles deadly opponents and discovers many dark secrets and histories about their world.

About Naruto‘s Beloved Anime Adaptation

Studio Pierrot (Black Clover) adapted Kishimoto’s story into two anime series — Naruto, which initially ran between 2002 and 2007, and Naruto Shippuden, which initially aired between 2007 and 2017. The show stars Junko Takeuchi (Yu-Gi-Oh!) as the titular lead, Noriaki Sugiyama (Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works) as Sasuke, Chie Nakamura (Ace Attorney) as Sakura and Kazuhiko Inoue (Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween) as Kakashi.

Naruto fans have more to be excited about than just imaginative collectibles they spend their hard-earned money on. Notably, four brand-new episodes will debut this September to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Studio Pierrot’s anime adaptation. While little information is known regarding story details for the new episodes, viewers in Japan will be able to see reruns of classic episodes throughout July as a form of promotion in the lead-up to the premieres.

Moreover, Kishimoto will release a special one-shot story about Naruto‘s father, Minato Namikaze, that explores “the secret story behind the development of [the Fourth Hokage’s] technique” sometime this summer. Minato won the honor of being the focus of the new manga by winning the recent NARUTOP99 popularity poll. Receiving 792,257 votes, he beat out Itachi Uchiha and Sakura Haruno, who placed second and third with 505,014 and 489,619, respectively. Naruto himself ranked sixth in the poll, falling behind Shisui Uchiha and Kakashi, who claimed the fourth and fifth place spots. Sasuke was voted the eighth most popular character.

Naruto and Naruto Shippuden are available to stream on Crunchyroll and Hulu, while Kishimoto’s manga series is distributed in North America by VIZ Media.
