Fired Star Wars Actor Goes Off On Kathleen Kennedy

Highlights

  • Gina Carano, former star of The Mandalorian, criticized Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy in a social media post, referencing a recent South Park episode mocking Kennedy. Carano suggests that Kennedy would censor YouTubers and use her publicists to smear the creators of South Park.
  • Carano hints that Kennedy asked her to unfollow certain accounts that criticized Kennedy, which Carano saw as a red flag. This suggests that Carano has a negative opinion of Kennedy and disagrees with her actions.
  • While Carano’s firing from The Mandalorian was said to be unrelated to politics, it is clear that Carano still harbors resentment towards Kennedy and possibly the company’s leadership. Carano’s comments reveal a strong belief that Kennedy is responsible for the franchise’s creative decline and a certain public image.

The Mandalorian star Gina Carano had some harsh words for Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy in a lengthy social media post following some choice criticism of the controversial Star Wars executive in a recent South Park episode.

The Mandalorian was a success and featured a strong cast of stars that included former MMA star-turned-actress Carano. However, Carano was fired from The Mandalorian after several controversial social media posts.

The star likely has no love for the execs behind her dismissal, including controversial head honcho Kathleen Kennedy, whose time with Star Wars is close to its end, according to rumors. Taking to X, Carano posted a clip from a recent South Park episode ridiculing Kennedy, with a lengthy caption attached. “This is the part where KK demands any YouTubers get censored off of YouTube for sharing and laughing at this hilarious episode, she’ll have YouTube disable the thumbs down option because of the ratio she’ll receive…,” reads the post. “Then she’ll have her publicist ghouls make sure Variety and Hollywood Reporter run hit pieces about the South Park creators and their families, smearing their names through every useful idiot she has under her thumb who would sell their soul to work for Lucasfilm…”

Kennedy is no stranger to criticism and ridicule, as she oversaw what many now see as the doomed Star Wars sequel trilogy and the mixed bag of other projects for streaming and more. However, some users rebuked Carano, calling her to task for her statement. Carano responded to many, seemingly revealing more about Kennedy in response to one fan. “For some added context, not just for you but for the people reading, one of the things your overlords asked me to do was to unfollow certain accounts because they ‘said bad things about Kathleen Kennedy.’ That was a huge red flag for me,” the response read.

While Disney’s former CEO said Carano’s Mandalorian firing wasn’t over politics, it seemed that way at the time, and the former Cara Dune might still hold ill will over the issue, with Kennedy being an easy target for the resentment she feels towards the company’s leadership. How much of what she says about Kenndy is true can’t be verified, but it paints a picture of someone invested in maintaining a particular public image. That ship has seemingly long since sailed as a contingent of fans blame Kennedy for the franchise’s creative decline in recent times, using her lack of initial involvement with The Mandalorian and the success of its first season as proof of her guilt.

Politics and social media posts aside, many fans enjoyed Carano’s appearances on the show, and there were even talks about Carano starring in a Cara Dune-focused Star Wars show before her dismissal. Fans can only wonder what could’ve been, as the star has burned any bridges back to the casting table.

The Mandalorian is available for streaming on Disney Plus.
