The vast majority of JJK is extremely serious and, in a story such as this one, comedy never goes a miss. Thankfully, Takaba is here to the rescue and he certainly lit up JJK chapter 240 in some style. It was one of the most hilarious chapters in the Culling Game arc and fans certainly loved every bit of it, especially as it set up great things towards the end.
A Flashback Before Gojo Vs Sukuna
Much to the surprise of the readers, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 240 started with quite an interesting flashback. This flashback took the fans to the start of the fight between Gojo and Sukuna. This fight, as fans know, lasted for quite a long time and ended with the death of Gojo, and the victory of Sukuna. However, before the fight even began, Gojo’s students were discussing how to proceed when Gojo lost. Their idea was to gang up on Sukuna and then defeat him, especially after he would be much weaker following his fight against Gojo. They were also discussing how to deal with Kenjaku if he leads an ambush from the other side. In that case, they would have to split up their forces and, according to them, Maki would be the one to take care of him.
Given that Maki is extremely strong, she should have no problems dealing with Kenjaku or, at the very least, she should be able to hold her own. This was an interesting development in the story, however, at the same time, it was also a bizarre one. Fans know that Gojo’s students have absolute confidence in him all the time. Even over the course of the chapters during the fight, all of them believed that Gojo was going to win. This is especially true for characters such as Yuji and Yuta. Both of them were fully convinced that Gojo was going to be the one who wins this fight and, for them to plan what to do after Gojo is defeated is simply bizarre in many ways.
This isn’t a surprise, given that the story has been somewhat questionable when it concerns the fight between Gojo and Sukuna, and it seems that this continues in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 240 as well. Nonetheless, this part of the chapter was rather small and the story turned towards better things immediately after. However, before the same changed, Takaba was brought into focus. Takaba and his curse technique were talked about in JJK chapter 240, however, not in as much detail as fans would have liked. The students were told that he possesses a very dangerous ability. As soon as the ability started being described, the scene shifted to the fight between Takaba and Kenjaku and that is a clear indication of the fact that this ability is going to be properly explored in this fight and that Takaba will most likely gain control over it as well.
Takaba’s Power Shines
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 240 focused quite heavily on the fight between Takaba and Kenjaku. This doesn’t come as a shock to any fan since most of them expected this fight to be at the center of attention. Takaba, who was able to survive a powerful attack by none other than Kenjaku in the last chapter, was completely fine at the beginning of this one. As the story continued, Kenjaku was repeatedly bamboozled by what was happening around him. Takaba was making the battle hilarious for himself and this allowed his cursed technique to shine. He gave Kenjaku quite a lot of funny outfits, making fun of him all the while. At the same time, any attack that Kenjaku used on him was simply ineffective because he was at the peak of his powers at the beginning of the chapter and it didn’t take long for Kenjaku to figure out that his thousand years of experience was absolutely worthless here.

However, Kenjaku is also a very shrewd person and he immediately realized that Takaba was bringing things from his imagination to life as long as he was laughing and thought things around him were funny. To counter that, Kenjaku devised a very smart strategy. Simply put, he decided to be even funnier than Takaba, and he did so in quite some style. When Takaba started making funny faces to get him to laugh in order for his technique to work, Kenjaku retaliated with an even funnier face, and at the end of it, it was Takaba who was laughing and, thus, his cursed technique simply would not work.
Kenjaku immediately realized that this was the opportunity for him to strike and he certainly dealt damaging blows to him. His conjecture turned out to be absolutely correct when Takaba finally started taking damage. After figuring out the weaknesses of his cursed technique, Kenjaku is now in the driving seat once again and fans will likely see that continue in the next chapter as well.
Takaba On The Backfoot
At the end of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 240, Takaba was pretty much on the back foot. He couldn’t laugh anymore and he started having self-doubts. Takaba believed that he was not funny enough and that Kenjaku was much funnier than him. He tried to get himself to believe that even though Kenjaku is funnier, he is funny too, however, he was filled with dread, especially after he saw the dead body of Hazenoki. His smile left his face and now, his cursed technique was simply as good as dead. At the same time, Kenjaku started following him around and asking him why the smile had been wiped off his face. He looks dead set on killing him, however, that certainly won’t happen, at least not in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 241.
That said, Takaba is in no mood to laugh right now and, what’s even scarier is the fact that he isn’t even trying to make jokes anymore. This fight could have just become very difficult for him and fans will have to wait and see how it proceeds from here onward. Given that the true potential of Takaba’s technique was discussed at the beginning of the chapter, there is hope that he has things up his sleeve that he will awaken as the fight continues, however, for now, things look really grim for him. JJK chapter 240 served as a good setup for the climax of this fight, but it should be more interesting than this. This chapter was certainly one of the weakest ones over the course of the last few weeks and if Gege wants to make this fight worthwhile, he needs to add more flavor to it.
