One Piece: The Strongest Fish-men, Explained

Highlights

  • Fish-men like Fisher Tiger, Sasaki, and Jimbei are some of the strongest warriors in One Piece due to their unique abilities and incredible power.
  • Fisher Tiger’s legendary strength led him to create the Sun Pirates, while Sasaki and Jack the Drought are fierce fighters in the Beast Pirates.
  • Jimbei’s mastery of Fish-man Karate and Haki, along with his experience as a former Shichibukai, make him a formidable member of the Straw Hat Pirates.

Though there are many unique and powerful races in One Piece, the Fishmen are one of the most prominent and crucial ones to the story. Due to their tenuous relations with the human beings of the world, they have had to adapt to the harsh climate of the world, gaining many new and powerful abilities, such as their Fish-man Karate, that only they can use. Because of this, they have become incredibly powerful fighters.

There are a few members of this race that rank among some of the most notorious characters in the series, largely owing to the incredible amount of power that they possess. Whether it’s through their physical strength, Fish-man Karate, or Haki, there are a few Fishmen who rank above the others of their race in terms of strength, so let’s break down who the strongest ones are.

Fisher Tiger

Affiliations: Sun Pirates

First Appearance

One Piece, Episode 415, “Hancock’s Confession – The Sisters’ Disgusting Past”

Type

Sea-Bream Fish-man

Unlike the other Fishmen included in this list, not much is known about how powerful Fisher Tiger truly was due to him being sparingly shown ever since his introduction. However, one does not singularly break into the Sacred Land of Marijoa without being someone of great strength! Due to his legendary power and selfless personality, he was able to launch a massive operation that saved tons of captives from the Celestial Dragons.

We of the Sun Pirates fight for freedom and liberty! And that is the extent of it!

After this legendary act that cemented Fisher Tiger as one of the Fishmen’s greatest heroes, he went on to create the Sun Pirates, a legendary pirate crew of Fishmen which acted as the beginning of the careers of other legendary Fishmen such as Jimbei and Arlong.

Sasaki

Affiliations: Beast Pirates, Sasaki Pirates

First Appearance

One Piece, Episode 954, “Its Name is Enma! Oden’s Great Swords!”

Debut Date

December 13, 2020

Type

Bluespine Unicornfish Fish-man

Sasaki was introduced as one of the Tobiroppo in the Beast Pirates, which already shows how powerful this character is. During the times he fought in the series, he more than made up for his inclusion in this position, since the Beast Pirates are those who prioritize strength above all other things.

I didn’t know dinosaurs could do that!

To add to his otherwise powerful stature and adept combat prowess, Sasaki’s strength is further exemplified due to his incredible Devil Fruit. Sasaki has eaten the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Triceratops, an Ancient Zoan Devil Fruit of incredible power, making him a strong opponent to go up against. Also, despite never being seen using them, he is stated to be an adept user of Busoshoku and Kenbunshoku Haki.

Kawamatsu

Affiliations: Nine Red Scabbards, Kozuki Oden

images/news/2024/6/3/one-piece-the-strongest-fishmen-explained_3.jpg

First Appearance

One Piece, Episode 910, “A Legendary Samurai – The Man Who Roger Admired”

Debut Date

November 19, 2019

Type

Japanese Pufferfish Fish-man

Many fans believe that of the Fish-man who aren’t pirates, Kawamatsu might just be the strongest of them all. Not only is he a legendary swordsman, he was a retainer for the legendary Kozuki Oden and his skill landed him a coveted spot in the Nine Red Scabbards. Not only is Kawamatsu stated to be the strongest sumo-wrestler in Wano Country, but he is also a powerful Haki user.

I, Kawamatsu, will never be defeated by you small fries!

Moreover, Kawamatsu is an exceptional swordsman, which is what allowed him to become one of Oden’s Nine Red Scabbards. His most impressive feat was that he was able to land multiple powerful blows on Kaido himself, which is something that speaks for itself.

Jimbei

Affiliations: Straw Hat Pirates, Sun Pirates, Neptune’s Army

images/news/2024/6/3/one-piece-the-strongest-fishmen-explained_4.jpg

First Appearance

One Piece, Episode 430, “A Warlord in Prison! Jimbei the Knight of the Sea!”

Debut Date

December 13, 2009

Type

Whale Shark Fish-man

Jimbei is perhaps the most iconic and recognizable of the entire race, given that fans have spent the most time with him. Jimbei’s strength is legendary, as he was once a Warlord of the Sea and a former captain of the legendary Sun Pirates, which itself goes to show how powerful he is. Over the course of the series, he has only gotten stronger.

You can’t bring back what you’ve lost, think about what you have now!

His mastery over Fish-man Karate was enough to deal substantial damage to Luffy in their brief scuffle during the Fish-man Island arc, and as the series went on, he even became an adept Haki user! Though the limits of his strength are unknown, Jimbei is one of the Straw Hats’ main combatants due to his incredible power and the wealth of experience he has being a former Shichibukai!

Jack the Drought

Affiliations: Beast Pirates

images/news/2024/6/3/one-piece-the-strongest-fishmen-explained_5.jpg

First Appearance

One Piece, Episode 746, “The Numerous Rivals Struggle Amongst Themselves – The Raging Monsters of the New World”

Debut Date

June 19, 2016

Type

Giant Grouper Fish-man

It takes a lot to be in a special position in the ranks of Kaido’s infamous Beast Pirates, which are based on a hierarchy of strength. That alone should speak to how powerful Jack the Drought truly is, as he is one of Kaido’s 3 lieutenants! This hulking brute became the captain of the Mammoth, which is a ship that flies the banner of the Beast Pirates but is controlled by him.

All land that he passes through decays away as if it’s been through a drought!

Jack possesses an incredible amount of strength and stamina, which makes him even more dangerous due to his colossal size. Moreover, he is a formidable swordsman, but his most terrifying power comes from his Devil Fruit. Just like Sasaki, Jack has eaten an Ancient Zoan Devil Fruit named the Zou Zou no Mi, Model: Mammoth, which, unsurprisingly, turns him into a massive Mammoth capable of incredible destructive powers. Of all the Fishmen ever introduced in One Piece, Jack the Drought is undoubtedly the strongest!
