The following contains spoilers for My Hero Academia Season 6, now streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation and Hulu.
My Hero Academia’s world is in shambles following the Paranormal Liberation War. The number two Pro Hero, Hawks, is gravely injured and can’t quite fly around like he used to. The number one, Endeavor, has been deemed untrustworthy by the general public after Dabi aired out the Todoroki family’s dirty laundry during the war. It seemed like all hope was lost during the battle before one specific hero showed up to save the day. After Dabi claimed Hawks had killed Best Jeanist, the stylish hero arrived to prove the villain’s claim wrong. Despite still being injured from his previous run-in with All For One, Jeanist still helped take down Gigantomachia.
The heroes endured considerable losses during the war, and if Jeanist hadn’t arrived, there could have been even more casualties. Although nobody acknowledged Jeanist as a candidate for the number one spot at the start of MHA, he was still a high-ranked hero and is currently only behind Hawks and Endeavor. The spotlight is currently on Jeanist, but does he have what it takes to become the number one?
Best Jeanist Is the Drama-Free Hero MHA’s Society Needs
Best Jeanist doesn’t have the same flashy personality as All Might, Endeavor or Hawks. All Might gave society a sense of peace and security by rescuing innocents with a smile, reassuring them everything would be okay because he was there. Endeavor was never the most likable hero, but society didn’t care because his record for saving innocents was pristine. Meanwhile, Hawks was the youngest hero to ever ascend to the number two position. Society found Hawks extremely likable because of his carefree personality and versatile fierce red wings. Once Endeavor took over, more people seemed to trust Hawks than their new number one.
Best Jeanist, meanwhile, always stood in their shadow. However, unlike Endeavor or Hawks, he never tried to steal the spotlight or make his presence known unless necessary. Endeavor spent years boiling in All Might’s shadow, while Hawks won friends and influenced people by being himself. Both Hawks and Endeavor have chaotic histories that put a sour taste in society’s mouth, but Best Jeanist is tame and drama-free by comparison. He didn’t have any grand goal of becoming number one, nor did he aspire to redesign society in his own vision.
Compared to some of the other fiery personalities on the Hero Billboard JP podium, Best Jeanist was more grounded and less domineering. He’s calm and mature, never losing his composure no matter what. Even during his fight against All For One, Best Jeanist didn’t give up until his body gave out. He may not stand out as much as the others, but that actually works in his favor since society’s had enough of heroes with shady histories and overly aggressive personalities.
Best Jeanist May Not Stand Out As Much, But He’s a Marketing Genius
Despite not being in the headlines as much as Hawks or Endeavor, Best Jeanist is still a marketing genius. When Bakugo went to intern with him, My Hero Academia fans saw that Jeanist had a legion of fangirls who were excited to see him walking down the street. Part of his charm is that he’s humble and personable, which he wanted to impart to the otherwise unfriendly and combative Bakugo.
Marketing is a major component of becoming a successful Pro Hero. Heroes aren’t just saviors in MHA; they’re also brand ambassadors and celebrities. Some let that status get to their head and get carried away, but Jeanist wasn’t one of them. His Quirk, Fiber Master, plays into his brand as a fashionable Pro Hero. He plays into this brand by constantly alluding to fashion and making analogies to jeans, like when he compared the League of Villains to cheap denim.
Best Jeanist may not stand out as much as the Pro Heroes ahead of him, but he’s still a strong contender for the number one spot. With a versatile Quirk, likable personality and a track record entirely clean of petty drama, Jeanist is just the number one hero My Hero Academia’s society needs to guide it out of the Paranormal Liberation War’s turmoil.
