It wasn’t just the stellar writing and impressive animation that prompted a second season of Blue Eye Samurai. The last episode ended on a cliffhanger, and fans are anxious to find out the answers to some pressing questions that still linger amid the falling ash and burning timber that ended the story.
Some questions are more pressing and obvious because they’re directly related to the main plot, which is focused on Mizu’s quest for revenge. There are several other story threads to pick up and questions that need to be answered in season two of Blue Eye Samurai on Netflix.
7 Where Are Skeffington And Routely?
The Cliffhanger Of Season One
All that Abijah tells Mizu is the names and a place, and mentions his former business associates are hidden, but doesn’t give any more details. Whether or not they’re actually in London is yet to be seen, but if they are, where exactly?
16th century London is a rough place but also an exciting one, with the English Renaissance just ramping up along with both the riches and chaos of colonialism. Mizu’s targets could be anywhere from the halls of Parliament to the shipping docks, and her need for more information is the only reason Abijah Fowler is still alive.
6 How Does Mizu Get To London?
It’s A Long Way To Tipperary
These days it’s only a matter of resources when it comes to circumnavigating the globe, but in Mizu’s era, it was a serious endeavor that often took years. It’s going to take at least eight or ten months for Mizu to reach Europe, never mind England, and she has to pass through some dangerous territory to get there.
It’s possible to go by boat the whole way, and there are several shipping lanes and trade routes in operation that lead to London eventually, even at this point in history. On the other hand, many trade routes also led through the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe if something changed with their mode of transport.
5 How Will Edo Be Rebuilt?
The Great Fire Really Happened
Looking at the real history of the famous historical incident can provide an answer to this question, and the details include an extensive reconstruction effort that took more than two years. This initiative involved a re-planning of the city by the shogunate, and Akemi is in an influential position in the government through her husband. The story of her rule would include the rebuilding of Edo.
Part of the plot in season two is going to be the restoration of the city, which seems unavoidable unless none of the story takes place in Japan. That’s also a possibility, but it would be interesting to see the details of how the Edo was rebuilt.
4 What Happened to Daichi?
It’s Assumed He Survived, But In What Condition?
The last we saw of Tokunobu Daichi, he was locked in the prison cell under the palace that he had meant for Akemi. According to his daughter, he survived the fire but needs quiet recovery time, but she doesn’t explain exactly why, and we have to take her word for it.
It remains to be seen if Akemi has the same heartless ambition as her father, and the extent of his recovery time and his injuries are unknown. After he deceived her, locked her up, killed a witness to his assassination plans, and tried to murder her in-laws, he’ll likely be very well supervised.
3 Does Ringo Become A Swordmaker?
He Was Training In Mizu’s Former Home
Ringo waited for Mizu, but when she did not return, he went back to her old house with the Sword Master. He and the Swordfather have formed a bond not only through their connection with Mizu but also because of their different abilities.
He and Swordfather have a candid conversation about how they compensate, whether it’s blacksmithing blind or no-hands soba noodles. It would be interesting to see what Ringo learns from Swordfather in season two, even if it’s not directly related to the main plot.
2 What Happens To Taigan?
There’s Not Much Left For Him In Japan
Taigan’s story started on a high note, but his changing fortunes are an example of how quickly that wheel can turn. His failed duel with Mizu cost him his social standing and his position with the temple, and then his engagement to Akemi was called off, so she could marry another man. When the time comes, she chooses to stay with her new husband instead of run away with him.
There was no sight of Taigan aboard Mizu’s ship, but it would be difficult for her to make such a long journey alone and with a troublesome prisoner. On the other hand, if Taigan stayed, he could serve as a samurai under Akemi’s brother-in-law, the Shogun of Japan.
1 Who Is Mizu’s Mother?
Her Biological Mother Could Be A Hidden Witness
During their fight in the last episode of season one, Abijah Fowler tells Mizu that the woman who she thought was her mother was actually her maid. It might have been a lie, but Abijah doesn’t have a motive to lead Mizu on about this when he already has vital information on her next targets, so it’s safe to assume he’s telling the truth.
It’s assumed that Mizu’s mother was just some random sex worker, but maybe that’s not the case. It’s not just her identity that’s a mystery, but where she is and what happened to her. Is she even in Japan anymore, and what does she know about Skeffington and Routely?
