Warning: The following contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen 258, “Inhuman Makyo Shinjuku Showdown, Part 30” by Gege Akutami, translated by John Werry, and Lettered by Snir Aharon, available in English from MangaPlus.

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 258 was certainly one that lived up to all expectations and more. After Yuji’s Awakening, fans knew that he was going to be dominant. In fact, Yuji dazzled in the battle in the last chapter, and Sukuna was not able to even graze him. Of course, this wasn’t going to be the equation of the battle always.

However, it was still very nice for fans to see Yuji being dominant against the King of curses for once. Fans knew that Sukuna would start fighting back, and that is precisely what happened in JJK chapter 258, as he unleashed all of his powers once again, in what appears to be his final push in the Shinjuku Showdown arc.

Sukuna was finally able to unleash his power again In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 258. He did hit four black flashes in the previous chapter after all, and because of that, he should have gained some advantage. The author mentioned that after hitting multiple black flashes, Gojo was able to get an awakening that allowed him to create a special circuit for reverse cursed technique. That is how he got his RCT back. When that happened, Gojo was able to heal and also get his CT back. The same should have been true for Sukuna as well. However, in his case, it was Yuji who stopped this from becoming a reality by hitting 7 black flashes between Megumi and his soul. They slowed his cursed energy output tremendously and weakened him greatly. He did not get his reverse Curse technique back. However, the sparks of black did bring back his domain to him.

Maintaining the highest degree of difficulty, even at the eleventh hour, Ryomen Sukuna sent slashes flying throughout his barrier on a scale as large as Shibuya.

Thanks to that, Sukuna was able to create his domain once again, and for the very first time, in his true form. Sukuna unleashed Malevolent Shrine once again, and even though it was an incomplete form, using several interesting methods, Sukuna was able to create Jujutsu that was not lacking in power. It was the peak of Sukuna’s abilities that he unleashed on the entire arena, covering every single sorcerer. However, the author clearly mentioned that the domain would only last for 99 seconds. After that, Sukuna would not be able to sustain this domain any longer, and it is because of his current physical condition that he can only make use of it once and for this span of time. If the sorcerers manage to endure it, essentially, Sukuna will be without his trump card, and from there onwards, Yuji will likely go on to win the battle.

Yuji Pulls Off A Simple Domain

Yuji’s Growth In JJK Continues

Fans got to see Yuji Itadori pull off another new technique in JJK chapter 258. This was quite interesting to the fans, as they finally got a glimpse of the flashback of the timeskip training. Essentially, Yuji learned the Simple Domain from none other than Kusakabe. This was made possible by Yuji and him swapping their souls. The soul swap itself was made possible by Ui Ui, who has an ability that allows him to do this.

Essentially, within a time period of one month, Yuji could swap between individuals twice. Fans only know one swap that happened with Kusakabe, and it let him gain Simple Domain. At the same time, fans also found out how Yuji is able to heal so efficiently. Choso mentioned that Yuji will be able to heal like him after he consumes Death Painting number 4 to 9. With that, he can essentially convert cursed energy directly into blood. This means that he does not have to multiply curse energy against itself which increases the consumption way more to produce reverse cursed technique. Yuji can simply convert cursed energy into blood and this allows him to heal a lot more than the others, which is quite a massive advantage for him in battle.

In just 99 seconds, Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine would collapse.

That is precisely what happened in the present timeline, as Yuji manifested a simple domain to protect himself from the onslaught of Sukuna. All the sorcerers around did the same, while Miwa jumped in to save Maki, and the other sorcerers pulled off a Simple Domain as well. Yuji’s simple domain ended up breaking, and he did end up receiving quite a lot of damage. However, using the power of blood manipulation, he was able to stay intact. Yuji sustained the vast majority of the damage that was thrown his way, and this was clearly great for the fans to see.

Unsurprisingly, at the end of JJK chapter 258, Sukuna brought out the flames. Fans know that Sukuna has the power to manipulate flames as well, and he used this ability in Shibuya for the very first time. Jogo fell victim to these flames for the very first time, and after that, Mahoraga was also taken down using this technique. Sukuna has not used these flames ever since, and it is only now that he is making use of them. The secret behind these flames was also revealed in JJK chapter 258. Essentially, Sukuna’s flames are called Divine Flames, and they can be taken from a stove top that is a part of his kitchen. Sukuna is like a chef who can make use of slicing attacks to chop people, and at the same time, flames to cook. His kitchen is essentially the source of these flames and fans finally have a big mystery solved. The editor’s note suggested that these flames of death close in on the sorcerers.

This looks like it is going to be the final stand for Ryomen Sukuna, as, after this, he will have absolutely nothing left. Sukuna had this trump card up his sleeve for quite a long time, but now, he will be making sure to use it. Of course, this technique is going to cause a lot of damage since it is likely one of his strongest ones. However, as long as Yuji survives, Sukuna is still in trouble.

Divine Flames…Open!

For this reason, the sorcerers will have to make sure to protect Yuji, even if it comes at the cost of their own lives. Another way this could go is Yuji countering this domain by himself. Perhaps, Yuji will learn how to expand his own domain and there will be a domain clash. It could be possible, given that he has just entered an awakened state. Fans will find out once Jujutsu Kaisen returns from break.

For now, the attention of the fans should be on Sukuna, who will likely strike down some sorcerers using his flame arrow. This could be anyone, and fans should be braced for seeing a death that could possibly come in JJK chapter 259. After that, Yuji is likely going to finish this battle quickly and Sukuna will fall, no matter what. This battle has been incredibly exciting for all the fans, but now, it is slowly edging closer to its end, and so is the entire series as well.

Sadly, JJK is going to be on break next week, thanks to Golden Week in Japan. The week after that, the series is going to return for sure and will likely deliver an incredible conclusion to Sukuna’s domain fight against the Sorcerers.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 259, is set to be May 12, 2024.
