After being kept away from the spotlight for so many years, One Piece fans finally got the chance to see Dr. Vegapunk’s actual body. The scientist has been at the forefront of some of the most incredible inventions of all time. His name was mentioned several times in the story before his appearance, but Oda never revealed what the genius looked like.
In the early part of the Egghead Island arc, the audience became familiar with Vegapunk’s satellites. So, fans had to wait quite a bit to see Vegapunk’s original body. In recent episodes, it was revealed that Vegapunk met Dragon in Ohara after the massacre. Dragon was angered by the actions of the World Government, and it strengthened his resolve for a better world even further.
Vegapunk Meets Luffy
In One Piece Episode 1098, fans saw Luffy’s group talking to Dr. Vegapunk. The latter told them about the Iron Giant, a creation from centuries ago. At one point in the past, the Iron Giant was responsible for attacking Marijoa. But before it could cause any widespread destruction, it ran out of energy. The higher-ups in the World Government entrusted the Iron Giant to Vegapunk and asked him to get rid of it. Driven by his curiosity, Vegapunk refused to destroy something so marvelous.
It was also revealed that the Iron Giant worked with an unknown power source, something that even the genius Vegapunk couldn’t replicate.
The Genius’ Request
While Bonney was still passed out, Vegapunk approached Luffy and requested that the pirate take him away from Egghead Island. This came as a massive surprise to fans, but before he could expand any further, the scene changed to CP0’s arrival near the port. The assassins were inbound for the island, and they asked for permission to enter. When Pythagoras found out, he immediately went to consult Shaka. The Straw Hats were also in the room, and they had mixed reactions to Lucci’s reappearance. Nami and Usopp were scared, while Franky and Sanji were gearing up to go.
Shaka told Pythagoras to ask the CP0 to drop the Seraphim and leave. Lucci decided to talk to the satellite and ask him about the disappearance of several Cipher Pol ships that had previously sailed for Egghead Island. However, none of the satellites had any idea where the ships had gone. In fact, Pythagoras stated that their records show that the ships had deported the island successfully. Ultimately, the satellites refused to let the assassins dock in their territory.
Towards the end of the episode, fans learned that Vegapunk wanted to leave the island because his curiosity drove him to conduct extensive research into the source that powered the Iron Giant. The World Government caught a whiff of it and decided to go after him. This is why the scientist wanted to get away from the island.
Release Date
One Piece Episode 1099 will be released on March 31, 2024. The episode is titled “Preparations for Interception! Rob Lucci Strikes!”. In the next episode, CP0 will finally dock on Egghead Island. It seems that they are going to be confronted by an angry Atlas. Due to her size, her physical strength is much greater than that of her fellow satellites, and she packs a mean punch. However, Atlas won’t be able to fight against someone of Rob Lucci’s caliber. Furthermore, if her actions aggravate Lucci, then he will not spare her.
Lucci vs Luffy
From the looks of it, there is a great chance that Lucci and Luffy are going to come face-to-face. In the last encounter, Luffy came out on top and defeated Rob Lucci, allowing his friends to escape from Enies Lobby safely. However, it is important to remember that the fight was extremely close and could have gone either way. Now, the two will fight once again to see who comes out on top. Luffy is an Emperor who has access to all three types of Haki. He has also awakened his Devil Fruit, which gives him more freedom in combat.
Rob Lucci, on the other hand, has improved to a certain extent, but it is extremely unlikely that he has managed to bridge the gap between him and the pirate. There is also a possibility of Lucci having awakened his Devil Fruit, but there is no telling whether it will be enough to harm Luffy. The Cipher Pol agent is very likely going to lose yet again. The outcome of a fight is going to affect what happens on Egghead Island. With Lucci out of the picture, the pirates can easily overwhelm the rest and help. Dr. Vegapunk to escape from Egghead Island.
