Near the end of Jujutsu Kaisen’s Culling Game, Ryomen Sukuna manages to get out of Yuji Itadori’s body and forcefully enter Megumi Fushiguro’s body. When the King of Curses takes over Megumi’s body, he also has access to Megumi’s innate technique, the prized Ten Shadows Technique. From that moment on, Sukuna has repeatedly used this iconic cursed ability in numerous battles, including his legendary fight against Satoru Gojo.
Interestingly enough, after witnessing how Sukuna fights with this versatile cursed ability, it’s clear that the King of Curses’s Ten Shadows Technique is way more powerful than Megumi’s Ten Shadows. These are the reasons why.
What Sukuna has Achieved with the Ten Shadows Technique
Before we get to the explanation, let’s find out how powerful Sukuna’s Ten Shadows Technique first. The two events that clearly showcase Sukuna’s masterful use of this cursed ability are none other than when he fights against a powerful reincarnated sorcerer named Yorozu, and the strongest sorcerer in the modern day, Satoru Gojo.

In her previous life, Yorozu was a well-known jujutsu sorcerer who was feared and respected all across Japan. Using the modern-day grading system, she is undoubtedly a Special Grade Sorcerer. Her strength is easily on par with other Special Grades like Yuki Tsukumo or Suguru Geto.
Yorozu’s cursed ability is “Creation”. As the name suggests, she can create anything apart from actual cursed tools. During her fight with Sukuna, Yorozu weaves layers upon layers of liquid metal to create insect armor that can destroy a building with a single punch. But still, Sukuna demolishes Yorozu using nothing but his newly acquired Ten Shadows Technique.
Defeating Satoru Gojo
One of the reasons why Sukuna acquired Megumi’s body and the Ten Shadows Technique is because he knows this ability will be crucial for his fight against the famed Satoru Gojo. He knows it will be a hellish fight, so he needs every weapon that he can get.
As expected, the usually calm and arrogant Sukuna has to go all out in this fight, unleashing his innate cursed ability together with the Ten Shadows Technique. Sukuna throws Cleave, Dismantle, a shikigami hybrid called Nue: Totality-Merged Beast Agito, and even his iconic Malevolent Shrine at Gojo to no avail. It is ultimately the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga that provides the crucial clue that enables Sukuna to defeat Gojo with a slash that can sever the world.

So how can Sukuna’s Ten Shadows Technique turn out to be so much more powerful than Megumi’s Ten Shadows? The first answer comes from the simple fact that Sukuna has an immeasurable cursed energy.

For Jujutsu Sorcerers and Cursed Spirits alike, cursed energy is the source of their power. If the cursed ability is a water hose, then the cursed energy is the water tank. In the case of Sukuna, however, it’s more like a massive lake rather than a regular water tank. This means he can use his cursed ability all day every day.
While having such a large pool of cursed energy is already amazing, what’s even more impressive is the fact that Sukuna is an expert in cursed energy manipulation. He can freely adjust his cursed energy output, which means he has an unusually high degree of control over his curse ability. This also means Sukuna can manipulate the Ten Shadows’ Shikigami way better than Megumi.

One of the most notable differences when comparing the state of the Ten Shadows Technique between Sukuna and Megumi is the size and strength of the shikigami. Every Ten Shadows Shikigami summoned by Sukuna, such as Nue and Divine Dogs, is way bigger and stronger than when they were summoned by Megumi. With Sukuna, Nue is the size of a house, Divine Dogs can swallow a person whole, and Max Elephant can easily destroy a building now.

Another major contribution to why Sukuna’s Ten Shadows is so overwhelmingly stronger than Megumi’s is simply due to Sukuna’s vast combat experience. The King of Curses has been around for more than a thousand years and he has fought against countless strong enemies during his long time on this earth.

The vast combat experience translates into an astonishing tactical mindset. Sukuna can perfectly analyze and even predict the opponent’s movements and intentions during an intense fight. His mind can compute countless possible scenarios to find a strategy that will give him the highest chance of winning.
Furthermore, Sukuna’s staggering cursed energy manipulation also allows him to adapt his approach and combat style at the drop of a hat based on any new information that he acquires about his opponents. This flexible fighting style is perfect for a versatile cursed ability like the Ten Shadows Technique.
Better use of the Shikigami
Rather than using it in a traditional way, Sukuna is not afraid to experiment with Megumi’s technique in order to find a better way to defeat his opponent. He will break it down and reconstruct it to suit the needs of the fight. This quote perfectly surmises his mindset towards the Ten Shadows Technique.
By not giving Ten Shadows Technique a stable form, Sukuna had expanded its effective range and prevented complete destruction. The drawback was that the Shikigami could not operate independently compromising its offensive strength. But Sukuna could make up for that with his immense cursed energy and output.
