Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 112 Preview: Showdown With Kaiju No. 9

Highlights

  • Chapter 112 of Kaiju No. 8 may be a turning point, but defeating Kaiju No. 9 won’t be easy with his evolving abilities.
  • Mina’s new weapon, the Rail Gun, holds the potential to take down Kaiju No. 9, but the battle is far from over.
  • The Defense Force’s teamwork is crucial as Mina and Kafka face Kaiju No. 9 while other divisions hold off Daikaiju threats.

Kaiju No. 8 fans may have to wait another two weeks before Chapter 112 is out, but the anticipation is already beginning. This is to be expected, as the conclusion of Chapter 111 is building up the hope that the combined efforts of Mina Ashiro and Kafka Hibino could finally bring down Kaiju No. 9 and bring an end to humanity’s greatest threat. It may also serve as Kaiju No. 8‘s most important chapter, as there are many pieces moving along that include Kafka’s growth in the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force, the First and Third Division working together, and how Mina is affected by the battle.

Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 112 could be the victory that the audience is anxiously waiting for, but many anticipate there could be more at play. With how powerful Kaiju No. 9 has been over the course of the last dozen chapters, it feels a little too easy for Mina and Kafka to take him down with one distraction and a newly introduced Numbers weapon of Mina. If Kaiju No. 9 has told the audience anything, it’s to never expect a battle to be over and that his continuous evolving throughout the fight could be what it requires to turn the tables on Mina and Kafka, and bring an end to the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force.

Mina’s Final Attempt At Defeating Kaiju No. 9

Her New Weapon Has The Potential Of Wiping Out Her Enemy

One of the biggest difficulties to keeping up with Kaiju No. 9 is its ability to evolve and react to techniques after one use. While Kafka’s Kaiju No. 8 form is incredibly powerful, most of the techniques he uses were adapted from the Defense Force’s combat style, which General Shinomiya helped create. This places Kafka in some hot water, as every attempt at an attack is easily read, keeping Kafka at bay. Thankfully, Kafka learned some new techniques during his training with Shoshiro, which he puts into play and catches Kaiju No. 9 off guard several times, creating an opening for a counterattack.

We’ll exterminate the monsters together! – Mina and Kafka, as children

During this time, Mina has switched up from supporting Kafka to reaching another post in order to launch her own attack. While Kafka’s Kaiju powers are extremely powerful, they’re only enough to keep up with Kaiju No. 9. What Kafka’s opponent doesn’t know is that the entire operation isn’t meant for Kaiju No. 8 to defeat Kaiju No. 9, but rather to keep him busy for long enough that Mina can get into position.

Sitting at post #14, Mina now has a new weapon, the Anti-Giant-Class Kaiju Rail Gun, and is ready to fire away. This new weapon is said to bring out Mina’s full potential power, allowing her to fire a round at full force from as far away as 20 kilometers. Being in this position, Mina is now back in her comfort zone, handling a large-sized Kaiju from a distance. The team work appears to be paying off, as Kafka is fully capable of taking on a large-size Kaiju at close range, which is something Soshiro could never accomplish. The only question remains: can Mina land her shot and take down the target?

As the audience has grown to learn, Kaiju No. 9 is no ordinary Daikaiju. He can adapt to any style of attack, changing his body around to be able to absorb blows while violently attacking his opponent. While Kafka can catch him off guard with several new attacks, they quickly become ordinary after using them just once. If Mina is unable to land her shot and take out Kaiju No. 9’s core, there may be no second chance. Mina and Kafka are operating on a two-person attack with no warning, but the only opportunity they have of taking down Kaiju No. 9 is through a direct, preemptive strike.

Can The Rest Of The Defense Force Hang On?

The Defense Force Continues To Hold Off Several Daikaiju

While Mina and Kafka are handling Kaiju No. 9, the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force’s First and Third Divisions are not standing idly by. This is due to Kaiju No. 9’s entire operation of deploying dozens of Daikaiju-level monsters around the city. Each monster is of the level of a division captain, which means the likes of Gen Narumi and Soshiro Hoshina have their hands full and cannot help with Mina and Kafka’s battle.

Luckily, the platoon leaders of the First and Third Divisions are more than capable of assisting in the efforts to keep the Daikaiju at bay. What makes the situation feel even more secure is the break-out performances of Ichikawa and Fushiro, who are both breaking through their glass ceiling and reaching new heights. Fushiro is now utilizing his Flash Adapter method, which draws out his full potential in bursts, while Ichikawa is now at the level of a division captain. Together, Ichikawa and Fushiro have the ability to team up and take down a Daikaiju like a captain could.

Now it’s my turn to save you. – Reno Ichikawa

At the current rate they are going, the First and Third Division captains and platoon leaders should be able to hold off the Daikaiju threat, while Mina and Kafka battle Kaiju No. 9. Part of the plan is to defeat Kaiju No. 9 with the belief that the remaining Daikaiju will cease to operate. With the Daikaiju all striking at the same time, it’s believed that they are being manipulated by Kaiju No. 9, who serves as the plan’s puppet master. Defeating Kaiju No. 9 could kill off the remaining Daikaiju, or at the very least cut off the brainwashing of Kaiju No. 9 and force them to back off.

There is a lot hanging in the balance, and it will all come down to Mina’s one chance of firing her new weapon. Should she miss or fail to wipe out the core of Kaiju No. 9, it may be the end of the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force and humanity. The fate of the world is in the hands of the First Division captain and her childhood friend.

Kaiju No. 8 is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of Kaiju No. 8, Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 112, is set to be August 15, 2024.
