Highlights

  • Yuta shocks fans by taking over Gojo’s body in JJK 261, setting the stage for an intense battle against Sukuna.
  • Yuta’s time limit of 5 minutes in Gojo’s body raises questions and possibilities for Gojo’s return in Jujutsu Kaisen.
  • With Shoko’s help, Yuta may have a chance to regain control of his own body, potentially paving the way for Gojo’s return.

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 261 delivered an incredibly massive shock to the fans as Gojo Satoru finally returned. However, not in the way fans expected him to. It was finally revealed that although Gojo’s physical body was certainly present on the battlefield, the person in control of the body was none other than Yuta Okkotsu, the powerful sorcerer who was shut down by Sukuna not so long ago.

This was a telling blow to the fans who had been waiting for Gojo’s revival, as it likely felt to them that all this buildup of Gojo returning to the battlefield was for naught. However, there is still hope and Gojo could still potentially return in the midst of the fight.

How Yuta Took Over Gojo’s Body

Yuta Utilized A Powerful Cursed Technique To Take Over Gojo

In JJK chapter 261, it was finally confirmed that the person standing in front of Sukuna was none other than Yuta, after taking control of Gojo’s body. This was made possible using the body swapping technique that fans have seen being utilized by Kenjaku on many occasions. At first, the scars on Gojo’s forehead might have led the fans to assume that it was Kenjaku who was in control of Gojo. However, not long after that, Sukuna himself confirmed that the person who was in charge of Gojo’s body was none other than Yuta.

My apologies! It seems I’ve underestimated you. I didn’t think you were capable of going this far…Okkotsu Yuta!

Then, things started making sense. Essentially, Yuta, using his cursed technique, which fans know to be Copy, gained access to Kenjaku’s cursed technique. With that, he was able to swap bodies and take control of Gojo’s corpse. Of course, Yuta himself was struck down by Sukuna using the World Splitting Dismantle. Thanks to Rika, he was able to survive this for a little longer than an average individual, and he was then transported to Shoko. Before he died in his own body, the cursed technique was activated and he was transferred to Gojo’s body. Immediately after, he was asked to utilize reverse cursed technique at maximum output and heal the body completely, gaining access to it.

It was also made clear that Yuta’s cursed technique will only last for 5 minutes. This means that after the 5 minutes are up, anything could happen to Yuta. Given that his own body is essentially dead, it is entirely possible that after 5 minutes, Yuta will simply die. The other possibility is that Yuta will die a slow death in Gojo’s body, or the third possibility is that he will get to keep Gojo’s body forever and live as the strongest modern sorcerer. These are the three possibilities that the fans have right now. However, there could be more to it. For now, Yuta is to fight against Sukuna using Gojo’s body, and it is certainly going to be a very exciting battle. However, there is a timer on his head that fans need to be very off.

Is There Any Hope For Gojo’s Return?

Gojo’s Return Could Still Happen In Jujutsu Kaisen

Of course, fans who were waiting for Gojo’s return were utterly disappointed in one way. Although they did get to see Gojo’s cursed technique and his body move again, the person in charge of the body was, of course, Yuta. This essentially means that Gojo is just a corpse and that Gege doesn’t intend for him to return to battle, at least for now. However, there is still hope for Gojo’s return.

Fans need to keep in mind that Yuta only has 5 minutes in Gojo’s body. Once those 5 minutes are up, anything could happen. The matter of the fact is that even Yuta doesn’t know what will happen once the 5 minutes are up. Fans do not exactly know how Kenjaku’s cursed technique works and whether this technique requires just one-time activation, or continuous cursed technique usage.

Yuta can only use his Copy technique for as long as Rika is fully manifested, which is 5 minutes. What happens after those 5 minutes are up?

Depending on which way this goes, Yuta could potentially be in charge of Gojo’s body forever, but that is likely not going to be the case. After the 5 minutes are up, Yuta will have to leave Gojo’s body and that is where things get interesting and another door of interesting opportunities opens up, which the author is likely to take full advantage of.

How Gojo Could Still Make His Return After 5 Minutes

Gojo’s Special Status Could Make A Return Possible

Simply put, Yuta can only take Gojo’s body for 5 minutes. This means that in those 5 minutes, he has to do the most that he can. The first thing that Yuta has to do is to unleash everything at Sukuna. He needs to be wary of the World Splitting Dismantle as well, since that can bypass the Infinity, as fans know already. However, Yuta has studied these techniques quite well, and being in Gojo’s body means that he has been struck by it twice. He should have a way to counter this technique now, and weaken Sukuna to the utmost best in these 5 minutes. Once the 5 minutes are up, it will likely be up to Yuji and Todo to do the job and defeat Sukuna for good. Meanwhile, Yuta will likely either start dying, or will have to be transported back to his own body.

Shoko has a major role to play here. Yuta’s body, as things stand, is cut in half. If Shoko was able to heal Gojo’s body and stitch it together, she can do the same for Yuta’s body as well. From there onwards, Yuta should be able to take control of his own body, even if it’s a corpse. This could be done using Kenjaku’s cursed technique that he has copied. If Yuta manages to take control of his own body, Gojo’s body would be uninhabited. Then, the possibility of Gojo taking control of his own body arises as well.

Now, one would one day as to how that would be possible. However, they need not look further than Toji Fushiguro who, in Shibuya, returned from the dead and took control of his own body. Now, of course, this was clearly made possible because Toji had a superhuman body and the soul of the individual inhabiting the body lost to his superior Heavenly Restriction. Gojo does not have that body, even though he is special.

However, what fans need to keep in mind is that Gojo has already been healed to the utmost fullest by Yuta. If Yuta leaves his body and takes control of his own, Gojo will have no one taking control of his own body. This could potentially open the door for Gojo to take control of his own body. Fans have previously seen Toji do something similar to his own body, even when someone was actively trying to assert control over him. In Gojo’s case, Yuta will already have left, meaning no one would be opposing him and it would be easier for him to take control of his own body. Furthermore, Geto was able to fight back against Kenjaku as well, meaning that in some shape or form, the soul of an individual does stay in the body. If Gojo’s soul is there, once Yuta moves out of the body, he should be able to take control once again, and, in that way, he could potentially return from the dead.
