Ninja Kamui is one of the best anime this year, with its action-packed fights and increasingly intriguing plot line. Through the show’s first half, the company Auza has risen to take a prominent role as the antagonists’ home base, but what are they after?
Ninja Kamui is an intense, fast-paced anime covering the ninja Higan’s relentless pursuit of revenge, whose family was brutally murdered by the ninja organization he once fought for. Through the first seven episodes, it is abundantly clear that Auza and the head of the ninja organization, Yamaji, have something up their sleeves that can impact the ninja world and the entire world forever.
What is Auza?
Auza is a technological powerhouse in the show’s world. They aim to support everyone with technology in all aspects of their lives. While plenty of mystery exists behind the company and its schemes, some information is well-known.
Their CEO is what anyone today could identify with as a typical social media mogul. He is a young, intelligent-looking blonde character with a friendly smile. However, it is evident behind the scenes that the only thing he is interested in is data and technological development. He has zero qualms about sacrificing people for data that can improve his technology.
Growing Interest
The lights are first shined on Auza as a suspect for backing the ninja organization when Mike and Higan are attacked at the Chinese restaurant, and they discover that Auza made the assailant’s weapons. This leads Mike’s partner, Emma, to look into Auza with Mike and Higan, only for them to be attacked by ninjas.
After it becomes clearer that Auza is probably his best way to get to Yamaji, Higan plans to attack Auza City. He is about to go it alone until he receives a call from an unknown benefactor. This benefactor, later revealed to be Emma, tells Higan how to get into the highly secured city and offers him a brief window to bypass the city’s state-of-the-art security systems. However, Higan is discovered, and his entry is thwarted.
The Higher Ups
Following this, the Auza higher-ups decide to allow Higan into the city. It’s a trap, but Higan doesn’t care. After he mows down waves and waves of ninja and Auza soldiers alike, he finally reaches the room with the higher-ups. He gets destroyed when they fight him with their Gusoku Gear, but Emma, who has been a ninja mole the whole time, saves him at the last minute.
As the episodes progress, more and more of the higher-up round table discussions are seen. It becomes apparent that they have a plan and that Yamaji has his own master plan. While it isn’t known for sure, it appears as though everyone has their own agenda at Auza.
The Past
Episodes six and seven have both done deep dives into Higan’s, Mari’s, and Emma’s past, and in the process have related more information about Auza. Primarily, these episodes show how Auza and Yamaji got together, and how that impacted the main and side characters the show follows.
From what can be inferred, Yamaji got into bed with Auza in the pursuit of more power. When war broke out, Yamaji decided that the ninja organization should leave Japan and fall under the power of another force (Auza, presumably) and make their new jurisdiction the entire world.
Yamaji solidified his power within the ninja organization by threatening to kill anyone who did not follow him. Any ninja that didn’t fall in line with his orders was immediately branded as a traitor and marked for execution. Even though Yamaji revealed the secrets of the ninja to Auza, his reason for killing the exiled ninjas is ironically to protect the secrets of the ninja arts.
With Yamaji’s alliance, Auza created the Gusoku Gear and now has skilled ninja such as Zai, the infamous reaper, available to do their bidding. Not only that, but it is clear that the ninja are essential to Auza’s end goal just as much as Auza is essential to Yamaji’s master plan.
There are still plenty of unknowns about Auza as of this writing. However, a few things are abundantly clear. Auza is up to no good, despite their public image of wanting to benefit society in every facet of life. Yamaji and Auza are clearly using each other as a means to their ends. What this means and who wins out, though, has yet to be seen.
