Jujutsu Kaisen is currently in the Shinjuku Showdown arc, and with each passing chapter, the story is nearing its end. The author of the series confirmed at Jump Festa 2024 that the series will be ending this year, and this is something that the fans are very well aware of now. This essentially means that the story will most likely conclude with the Shinjuku Showdown arc, with only the aftermath of the battle being left to tackle following the events of the war.
Of course, once the dust settles on the battlefield, a lot of things in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen will change. And, one thing that many fans will be interested to know is who the next strongest sorcerer will be, and there are certainly many candidates to take on this mighty role.
The Strongest Modern Sorcerer
The title of the strongest modern sorcerer was certainly not up for dispute until the very final arc of JJK. This title belonged to none other than Gojo Satoru, and fans already know that he possessed tremendous skill up his sleeve. When Gojo was born, he inherited the power of both the Limitless and the Six Eyes, which is a combination that did not appear for 400 years. In fact, it was clearly stated in the story that when Gojo was born, the balance of the entire world shifted. As such, it can be said that Gojo was destined to reach the very top. However, that is not to say that Gojo did not put in effort. While he was a genius, Gojo still put hours and hours of work in and honed his technique to the very maximum.
He brought out the best of his powers and became one of the most intuitive and innovative fighters that fans have seen in the entire series. His skill, when combined with his innate talent made him the strongest modern sorcerer. In fact, Gojo’s very skill could be compared to Ryomen Sukuna, and that is a magnificent feat in itself. In the Shinjuku Showdown arc, Gojo finally got to test his skill against the King of Curses.
Unfortunately, Gojo was not able to beat him, however, they were neck to neck. Gojo could even have killed him had luck been on his side. However, at the end of the day, he lost, and, with that, his title of the strongest modern sorcerer vanished as well. As such, this position opens up once again, and it will certainly be interesting to see who takes the throne of the strongest once the battle in Shinjuku wraps up.
The Fall Of Sukuna
Before discussing who ends up becoming the strongest sorcerer, one needs to tackle the problem of Sukuna, which is at the center of everything in JJK at the moment. Sukuna is running wild in Shinjuku, and he certainly needs to be subdued. To combat him, a team has been assembled and they are currently leading a raid on him, and it certainly doesn’t look like it is easy to stop him. Sukuna is tearing apart every single sorcerer that the fans have seen in the story, and it doesn’t appear that he’s going to stop anytime soon. That said, Sukuna has to fall at some point, and that is extremely necessary for the conclusion of JJK.
It is highly likely that the one to defeat Sukuna is going to be none other than Yuji. Regardless of what fans may or may not believe, Yuji will most likely get a major moment towards the climax of the Shinjuku Showdown arc, and once that happens, the battle will finally end. Japan will finally be safe once again, and of course, it is only after that that one can discuss the idea of the strongest sorcerer.
The Strongest Remaining Sorcerers At The End Of The Story
When thinking of the strongest sorcerers at the end of JJK, there are certainly many interesting candidates. First and foremost are the ones that have previously been touted to be the next Gojo. These would be characters such as Yuta Okkotsu, who was the protege of Gojo himself. Yuta possesses tremendous power and his connection to Rika only makes him stronger. His curse technique is incredibly overpowered, as fans saw during his display against Sukuna.
He possesses an amazing Reverse Cursed Technique, and his cursed energy reserves are greater than even that of Gojo. All things put together, Yuta is certainly a magnificent candidate for being the strongest more than sorcerer after Gojo.
There is also the case of Kinji Hakari, who fans know to be another individual that Gojo once said could reach his level of power. It is entirely possible for Hakari to be the strongest as well, however, between him and Yuta, the latter looks like he’s the stronger one. Of course, then there is the case of Maki, who, despite not having any cursed energy, has made it incredibly far. Sukuna paid special tribute to Maki and she was the one who showcased the best display against him for quite a while. Maki is yet another individual who could potentially take the title of the strongest.
Of course, there are also geniuses such as Hiromi Higuruma, who, if healed, could very well come for this position. However, the person most likely to take the title for himself is Yuji, the protagonist of the series. Yuji has everything in the bag that one would need to become the strongest sorcerer. He has already reached incredibly high levels as a fighter in the Shinjuku Showdown arc, and he still continues to grow. Yuji now has access to Reverse Cursed Technique, and, at the same time, he has the power of Blood Manipulation as well.
Yuji could still grow even further and tap into powers such as Domain Expansion. His control over cursed energy is continuously growing, and by the time he defeats Sukuna, Yuji will most certainly be one of the most powerful individuals that the fans will have seen. Just being the one to defeat Sukuna should be enough for him to get this title for himself and, all things considered, he is the only one who deserves it.
Of course, there is also a very rare case of Gojo returning from death. If that were to happen, then, it goes without saying that Gojo would still maintain his position as the strongest modern sorcerer, and that would certainly be quite a joy for a lot of the fans. However, the most likely outcome would be for Yuji to become the strongest modern sorcerer after Sukuna falls.
Still, fans have some waiting to do before that happens, as the final battle in JJK is yet to wrap up. Once that happens, it will be clear as to who the author wants to pass the title of the strongest to.
