Highlights
- In One Piece, Haki and Devil Fruits are two sources of power – mastering Haki requires effort, but many choose Devil Fruits.
- Characters like Usopp, Koby, and Eustass Kid are shown to be improving their Haki skills to face tougher opponents in the story.
- Trafalgar Law, Sanji, Smoker, and Roronoa Zoro are also exploring and refining their Haki abilities as the narrative progresses.
Haki is one of the two powers in One Piece, the other being Devil Fruits. Most characters in One Piece prefer consuming Devil Fruits over learning how to use Haki, as it doesn’t require nearly the same level of effort.
This is one of the many reasons that there are more characters who have mastered their Devil Fruits than the Haki. As the story progresses, the individuals who lack proper control over their Haki will suffer, and the only way to fix this is by training and mastering their Haki.
7 Usopp
Haki Type: Observation
Usopp is the sniper of the Straw Hat Pirates and arguably the weakest member when it comes to physical strength. He has been sailing with the crew for a long time, during which he has had the chance to fight new opponents and learn useful skills.
Usopp awakened his Observation Haki in Dressrosa, and he used it to save Luffy and Law by knocking out Sugar. In the Final Saga, the level of opponents that the Straw Hats face is going to increase drastically. So, Usopp needs to improve his Haki if he wants to be able to beat them.
6 Koby
Haki Type: Armament and Observation
Koby is a Marine Captain who was trained by the legendary Monkey D. Garp himself. When Koby joined the Marines, he was frail and unable to take a stand for himself. Since then, he has improved by leaps and bounds.
Koby awakened his Observation Haki in the Paramount War, and he was able to hear voices fading away. Koby didn’t use his Armament Haki properly until the Egghead arc, where he had to save his fellow Marines from Avalo Pizarro’s attack. Koby infused his attack with advanced Armament Haki, causing immense damage to the pirate. It seems that Koby still doesn’t have full control over his Haki, but it shouldn’t take long if he keeps training.
5 Eustass Kid
Haki Type: Conqueror’s, Armament, and Observation
Eustass Kid is the captain of the Kid Pirates. He was introduced in the Sabaody Archipelago arc along with the other Worst Generation members. At the time, Kid had the highest bounty out of all the Supernovas. It was most likely because of his cruel actions, which possibly resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people.
Eustass Kid has the Jiki Jiki no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, which gives him the power to control magnetic forces. Over time, Kid awakened his Devil Fruit and unlocked new powers. Surprisingly, Kid also has all three types of Haki, but he has yet to master any of them. If he had focused on his Conqueror’s Haki, Kid would have been much closer to the level of a Yonko.
4 Trafalgar Law
Haki Type: Armament and Observation
Trafalgar Law is one of the most promising pirates in One Piece. He is the captain of the Heart Pirates and a member of the Worst Generation. Law’s main source of power is his Devil Fruit. He has relied on the Ope Ope no Mi’s abilities to bail him out of many troublesome situations.
However, there have been moments where Law’s lack of advanced Haki has hurt him. The most recent example is his fight against Blackbeard. Once the latter began to use the Yami Yami no Mi, Law’s Devil Fruit power was nullified. If he had better Haki, there is no denying that Law would have given the Yonko a better challenge.
3 Sanji
Haki Type: Armament and Observation
Sanji joined the Straw Hat Pirates as their cook in the Baratie arc. While his job may be to cook, Sanji is also an adept fighter. So far, he has challenged and defeated numerous characters. His most recent victory came against Queen in the Wano Country arc. Sanji’s genetic enhancements gave him a massive edge in the battle.
Sanji has two types of Haki, namely, Observation and Armament. He has great control over Observation Haki, but he has not managed to advance it to the next stage. Fans already know that the next level of the Observation Haki is the Future Sight, which allows an individual to foresee the future. Sanji also needs to work on Armament Haki, as he is nowhere near the level of his fellow Monster Trio.
2 Smoker
Haki Type: Armament and Observation
Smoker is a Marine Vice Admiral who has served as the antagonist in several arcs. After the time-skip, his involvement in the story has been very limited. Smoker was last seen in the Punk Hazard arc, where he was beaten by Trafalgar Law and Vergo.
In neither of the two fights, Smoker was unable to do any significant damage to his opponents. Hopefully, when he reappears in the story, Smoker will have completely mastered his Haki.
1 Roronoa Zoro
Haki Type: Conqueror’s, Armament, and Observation
Roronoa Zoro is an exceptionally skilled swordsman. He dreams of becoming the strongest swordsman in the world, but he still has a ways to go before he can realize it. Zoro uses three swords while fighting, making him one of the characters with a unique combat style.
Zoro learned that he has Conqueror’s Haki in Wano, where he used it to injure Kaido and later defeat King. However, he still doesn’t have full control over it. Zoro has to rely on Enma to draw out the Conqueror’s Haki. Luckily, he has time to master all three types of Haki.
