Similar Anime To Mayonaka Punch

Mayonaka Punch follows a girl who was recently booted from the NewTuber group she was a part of — called Harikiri Sisters — due to her toxic behavior. She sets out to start her own channel and aims to surpass the view count of Harikiri Sisters, but she is having a hard time recovering from being dropped from the group during a live broadcast.

She stumbles upon a vampire named Live in an abandoned hospital, and after a frantic first encounter, makes a deal with Live. If they can hit 1 million subscribers, she’ll let Live make a meal of her. Live is just one of the many iconic female vampires in anime, with some of the others having entries on this list. Mayonaka Punch is an anime for those looking for a supernatural comedy with an unorthodox love angle, but also the developing friendship between the two main characters. If all this sounds like what you’re looking for, then here are some other titles you should consider looking into.

6 Ms. Vampire Who Lives In My Neighborhood

A Delightful Supernatural Comedy

  • Studio: Studio Gokumi
  • Episode count: 12
  • Where To Watch: Crunchyroll

The story of Ms. Vampire Who Lives In My Neighborhood involves a high school girl named Akari Amano who goes out one night in search of a rumored “ageless girl” who turns out to be a vampire named Sophie. Sophie is not the usual depiction of a vampire, bringing a lot of comedic and gag elements to the story — even ordering her blood online rather than hunting humans.

The show leans heavily into vampire-themed jokes and situations, but also puts said vampire in situations outside the norm. Mayonaka Punch has implemented several jokes that cut through tense moments in the show, and the same can be said for Ms. Vampire Who Lives in My Neighborhood.

5 Vlad Love

Weird & Wacky With A Good Art Style

  • Studio: Drive
  • Episode count: 12
  • Where To Watch: Crunchyroll

Vlad Love is another great anime for vampire fans to look into. It follows Mitsugu Banba, a girl who frequents blood banks so that she can donate her blood. While at a mobile blood bank, she meets a pale girl who falls unconscious — but not before throwing one of the mean-spirited nurses and wrecking the mobile blood bank. Mitsugu takes the girl home, setting in motion various comedic events, as the girl turns out to be — you guessed it — a vampire!

This is another anime that uses the pairing of a vampire and a human, leaning very heavily into gag humor — similar to Mayonaka Punch. This can include making references to well known media franchises such as Castlevania. The romantic angle of this anime is not as “teen romance” as Mayonaka Punch and feels like a more traditional comedy-romance anime, but there’s still plenty of overlap between the two — Vlad Love should easily scratch a similar itch to Mayonaka Punch.

4 Bocchi The Rock!

An Endearing Musical Slice Of Life

The story of Bocchi the Rock follows Hitori Gotou, more commonly known as Bocchi. She is a very shy girl with social communication issues, but she still wishes to make connections with other people. She learned guitar from a young age and has always dreamed of being in a band and shining on stage. While at a playground, a loud blonde girl charges up to Bocchi yelling “Guitar” and asks her to play in her band.

While there is nothing supernatural about this entry, it shares a lot of common elements with Mayonaka Punch. Both explore the element of amassing fame and recognition, and both keep viewers entertained with their comedic antics. This entry also boasts some truly incredible animation that compliments its pleasing art style.

3 Call Of The Night

A Psychological Supernatural Love Story

Call of the Night follows Kou Yamori, a middle schooler who has stopped going to school — or even going out. One night, he sneaks out without his parents knowing to wander the streets due to his insomnia. He meets a girl named Nazuna, who ends up feeding on him — exposing the fact that she is a vampire. This initially concerns Kou, worried that he will now turn into a vampire as well. However, this only happens if the one bitten is in love with the vampire that bites them.

Both of these anime (Call of the Night and Mayonaka Punch) have a focus on the vampire lead wishing to make a meal of the main character. This entry also focuses on the romantic pairing between a human and a vampire, with the vampire having supernatural abilities. Mayonaka Punch delivers much harder-hitting punch lines with its jokes, due to being the more outrageous of the two, but Call of the Night‘s humor will still tickle your funny bone.

2 Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid

A Dragon Girl That Serves As The Maid To An Office Worker

images/news/2024/7/27/best-anime-like-mayonaka-punch-supernatural-romance_5.jpg

The titular character of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is an office worker, and while wandering the forest after drinking too much sake called “Dragonslayer,” she stumbles upon a dragon with a sword in its side. While the dragon is hostile at first, Miss Kobayashi offers to remove the sword — believing the whole encounter to just be a dream. Afterward, she offers the dragon a place to stay at her home — and be one of the most dangerous of maids in all of anime.

Like most of the other entries on this list, this anime combines an unorthodox love story with plenty of comedic moments. Just like how Mayonaka Punch plays on vampire-themed moments of humor, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid does that same, but to a far greater — and grander — extent.

1 Zombie Land Saga

An All Zombie Idol Group

images/news/2024/7/27/best-anime-like-mayonaka-punch-supernatural-romance_6.jpg

While on her way to hand in an audition sheet in the hopes of becoming an idol, Sakura Minamoto is struck by a truck and dies. This may sound like the start to a female-centered isekai story, but Sakura is not reincarnated in another world. Instead, she is resurrected as a zombie in the same world. However, she still gets to pursue her dream, as a mysterious manager wishes for her and 6 other girls to form an all-zombie idol group in Zombie Land Saga.

There is a lot of depth explored in each character’s life before their untimely deaths, offering plenty of interesting stories to delve into through flashbacks. Zombie Land Saga does not have the same romantic angle as Mayonaka Punch and focuses purely on the humor that comes with exploring the supernatural elements of zombie girls. From striking fear into the hearts of the unsuspecting living, to trying to come up with a rational excuse for a head being able to function without the need of a body, Zombie Land Saga is worth checking out for the sheer novelty of it — and you’ll end up sticking around for a genuinely touching story.
