With questions like will Ghostface live this time or what the opening kill be like, horror fans have been discussing

Scream 7 ever since it was first announced in 2023. Although there is no official release date or plot details, fans can reflect back on the slasher franchise and find potential hints about what’s to come.

Since Kevin Williamson will direct Scream 7, his past interviews about his work on the Scream franchise have become even more compelling. Although Williamson didn’t write Scream 3, which was released in 2000 and saw Sidney trying to live a new life while Stab 3 is being filmed in Los Angeles, he had a plan for the movie that is intriguing to look back on. Could Kevin Williamson’s Scream 3 ideas make for a great Scream 7?

Kevin Williamson’s Scream 3 Plans Should Be Used For Scream 7

In an interview back in 2013, Kevin Williamson shared his Scream 3 idea that wasn’t used. Williamson said:

“In my original story for
Scream 3,
the killers were basically a fanclub of Woodsboro kids that had formed because of
Stab 1
and
Stab 2.
They were all doing the killings and the big surprise of the movie was when Sidney walked into the house after Ghostface had killed everyone… and they all rose up. None of them were actually dead and they’d planned the whole thing.”

Kevin Williamson’s Scream 3 plans would be perfect for Scream 7 because it would be exciting to have a group of Ghostface killers targeting Sidney. Since Scream 4, Scream (2022), and Scream 6 all featured characters who idolized the Stab franchise and hoped to create their own viral sensation, it would make sense to continue this in the next sequel. Although fans have various opinions on the Stab movies, they do prove that the Scream franchise created its own world long ago, which is important. Stab also allows Scream to have some social commentary on social media, going viral, and why people want to be famous.

However, having a group of Ghostfaces would also feel new, which is important since Scream 7 could be a reboot of the horror franchise that sends the story down an unexpected path. Sidney would also never think that this would happen, which would allow her to shine as the tough final girl everyone knows she is.

Williamson added that he implemented some of his ideas into both Scream 4 and his horror TV show The Following, which starred Kevin Bacon. He said:

“The motive was their quest for fame, so I just placed that into one character with
Scream 4
They were trying to top [Sidney’s] Woodsboro story so they could be the legacy of their hometown. All those ideas metamorphosed into
The Following
.”

While it’s possible to argue that several Ghostfaces wanted to become famous and, therefore, their motivation should be different in Scream 7, it’s also tricky to avoid this. The writers of Scream 7 could be inspired by Kevin Williamson’s idea and Scream 7 could be partly set in Woodsboro.

While there has been talk about a new location for the next movie since it will likely be about Sidney Prescott and her family, Woodsboro could still be a major setting. This would allow the franchise to tell Sidney’s story in a new way since she is now an adult with kids and a husband, but it would keep Kevin Williamson’s idea of Stab fans who can’t let go of those movies. Fans want something new but also love the familiarity and comfort of Woodsboro since it’s an eerie yet nostalgic place. This would make everyone happy.

What Happened In The Scream Movies Kevin Williamson Wrote?

Kevin Williamson wrote Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4, which all feature compelling and creepy plots. In the original movie from 1996, Sidney Prescott’s story is set up along with the franchise’s humorous tone. The fact that Sidney’s boyfriend Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) was one of the two original Ghostface killers in Scream, along with his goofy friend Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard), is a crucial part of Sidney’s backstory. She isn’t sure who she can trust and knows she always has to keep one eye open.

Scream 2 and Scream 4 both continue Sidney’s journey in smart ways. In the sequel from 1997, Sidney fights Ghostface at college and in the fourth movie in the slasher franchise, Sidney returns home to Woodsboro to find the killings have started again. In both movies, Sidney grapples with the loss of people who are close to her and keeps finding strength she didn’t know she had.

While there’s a big question about whether Sidney will die in Scream 7, there’s hope that this iconic character will survive. No matter what happens to Sidney, she will continue the unforgettable and scary journey she has been on since 1996.
