Players of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are experiencing both the benefits and the drawbacks of the game’s creative freedom, leading to their own “I’m a genius! Oh no!” moments from Mobile Suit Gundam.

On Twitter, artist Amber Blade Jones drew a laugh-out-loud Tears of the Kingdom fan art based on a meme-able moment from Gundam Reconguista in G. Link is gloating over a contraption he built with his new Ultrahand ability in the fan art. However, his hand-made device instantly obliterates itself after being put to use, leading Link to exclaim, “I’m a genius! Oh no!”

The Original Meme Behind Jones’ Fan Art

Jones’ fan art found inspiration from a famous moment from Episode 3 of Gundam Reconguista in G. Klimton Nicchini, a self-absorbed Mobile Suit Pilot, declares himself a genius after achieving momentary success in battle, only to experience an upset immediately after. The far too relatable moment become an internet classic. Given the trial-and-error nature players are experiencing crafting their own ingenious devices, Jones’ Tears of the Kingdom fan art perfectly encapsulates the game’s innovative features. As a professional artist, Jones has worked on projects like The Legend of Vox Machina, Harley Quinn and Craig of the Creek.

Fans and critics alike praise The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for encouraging players to think outside the box. Game journalist Imran Khan made an interesting observation regarding the open-ended puzzle-solving in Tears of the Kingdom and its predecessor, Breath of the Wild. “There’s probably a very interesting game design essay in how TotK (and to an extent BotW) reframe what ‘intended’ puzzle solutions mean,” Khan said. “I am positive I did not do that last area with the offered solutions but I did do some real dumb shit that worked and that’s also intended.” On social media, players share amazing ways to bypass obstacles in Tears of the Kingdom, thanks to the game’s Ultrahand feature.

Six years after Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available on the Nintendo Switch. The sequel lets players explore the land of Hyrule in various new ways. One of which is the ability to soar to the skies above. With Link’s new abilities, players can craft powerful weapons and incredible vehicles with countless materials scattered across the land.
