The Forger Family…
Twilight, also known as Loid Forger, is a seasoned spy tasked with infiltrating Eden College to spy on Donovan Desmond, leader of the National Unity Party in Ostania, by posing as a parent. He adopts a young girl named Anya and creates a makeshift family with her and a woman named Yor Briar. Anya, possessing telepathic abilities, forms a strong bond with Twilight and Yor as they navigate their fabricated family dynamic, accompanied by their loyal dog Bond, who had gained precognitive abilities through experimental procedures.
While Twilight works to ensure Anya’s academic success for their mission, Yor, initially recruited to pose as Twilight’s wife, grapples with her career as an assassin and her growing affection for Twilight and Anya, striving to protect and nurture their family while seeking redemption.
…is Back with Even More Secrets
In Spy x Family Code: White, the Forgers face various dilemmas, from maintaining their cover to navigating a sticky situation involving a prized dessert in Frigis, culminating in a rescue mission amidst chaos and danger.
Different Dilemmas
Loid Forger, codenamed “Twilight,” receives an order from WISE to change his assignment. However, the new man chosen for Operation Strix is incompetent, and though Loid does not admit it, he hesitates to break up his “family”. As he leaves, he encounters a woman on the street. While grabbing her hat, it appears as if he’s flirting and kissing her. The woman is Nightfall, a WISE agent in love with Twilight, aiming to replace Yor as his wife. Simultaneously, Yor is on the roof discussing signs of cheating in men. Seeing Loid’s interaction, she misinterprets it, feeling he’s unhappy with her as his wife and is “cheating,” though their relationship is a farce. Her emotions are conflicted, torn between not wanting to be replaced and her burgeoning feelings for him and Anya.
In Anya’s class, the headmaster, Henry Henderson, assigns a baking task to win a Stella. Stellas are crucial for Loid’s mission of getting Anya into the Imperial Scholars program to access a mixer attended by Desmond. Loid decides they should bake “Melemele,” the favorite dessert of one of the judges and a rare pastry from the Frigis region, favored by the principal and head of the judging panel. So, the Forgers embark on a family trip to Frigis to taste the real thing.
A Sticky Situation
While on the train, Anya finds a key, leading to a trunk case containing chocolate that she accidentally swallows, startling its owners. They try to attack her, but Yor intervenes, rescuing Anya. Upon arriving in Frigis, they visit a restaurant serving the desired dessert. However, they face a challenge from Snidel, a high-ranking officer, who contests Loid to identify the sugar content in different dessert. Loid fails, conceding on a technicality, allowing Snidel to steal the dessert. As they plan to return the next day, they learn the ingredients haven’t arrived. Loid agrees to source them in exchange for the dessert recipe. While searching the market, they struggle to find cherry liqueur, a rare ingredient. Loid calls Franky, a tobacco store clerk and informant, for help. Meanwhile, Yor remains uneasy, suspecting Loid of infidelity. Sensing tension, Anya urges Loid and Yor to talk, leading to a confrontation on the Ferris wheel.
Revelations, Rescue, and Redemption
Later that night, Anya sneaks out to retrieve the liqueur, inadvertently getting abducted by men working for Snidel, seeking a microfilm hidden in the chocolate. Loid and Yor realize Anya’s absence and launch a rescue mission. Snidel orders his men to monitor Anya’s poop for the microfilm. However, he soon decides he does not want to wait and orders his men to kill her. They can not do it and Anya escapes, only to be hidden in a lower compartment of the ship.
Loid fights Snidel while Yor faces off against Type F, a mecha man. The family reconnects, narrowly avoiding a crash. The microfilm is found in Anya’s teeth, and Twilight remains on the assignment. Back at school, the cooking competition is canceled. In the end credits, Franky waits for Loid with the cherry liqueur in Frigis, marking the end of a tumultuous ordeal for the Forger family.
Spy x Family Code: White offers a delightful blend of humor, heartwarming moments, and thrilling action. It provided entertaining scenes such as Loid’s clever escape disguised as a wine tasting, and Anya’s innocent observations adding to their dismay, characteristic of the series’ humor and action. Beneath the surface, the movie delved into the evolving familial bonds among Loid, Anya, and Yor. Loid’s growing attachment to both Anya and Yor was clearly visible, while Yor’s initial suspicion revealed deeper emotions.
Anya, usually the source of comedy, showcased vulnerability, underscoring the family’s importance. While not canon in the manga, Spy x Family Code: White beautifully captures the warmth and affection central to the series, fitting seamlessly into the world of Spy x Family.
