A world as varied and colorful as Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is home to innumerable species of life, with each exhibiting considerable diversity in terms of size, origin, appearance, and allegiance. In this vein, there are quite a few memorable creatures who have served as companions to the main cast along with a number of supporting characters.
While some of these creatures were trained for combat purposes and thus had more menacing appearances, others were included purely for how appealing and endearing they were, allowing audiences to become emotionally attached to them. Along these lines, here are some of the cutest creatures in One Piece.
5 Gonbe
Chimney’s Pet Cat Who Is Actually A Rabbit
Manga Debut |
One Piece – “Puffing Tom” (Chapter #322) |
---|---|
Anime Debut |
One Piece – “Running Sea Train! The City of Water, Water 7” (Episode #229) |
An adorable companion to Chimney — granddaughter of Water 7’s Sea Train Conductor, Kokoro — Gonbe plays the role of the girl’s pet cat, despite actually being a rabbit. He even has all the characteristic traits of a rabbit, including long ears and a cotton tail, but often mimics the sounds made by cats.
Gonbe has also been shown copying Chimney’s own behavior and actions from time to time, further adding to the entire illusion. He accompanied the Straw Hat Pirates on their trip to Enies Lobby from Water 7 as they attempted to save Nico Robin from the clutches of the World Government and CP9. After the arc’s final battle, Gonbe, Kokoro, and Chimney sailed back to Water 7 aboard the Going Merry, and they were all present during the ship’s Viking funeral. Despite experiencing something of an identity crisis, Gonbe is an adorable One Piece creature, no matter what animal viewers perceive him as.
4 Camel
Kuzan’s Super Penguin
Manga Debut |
One Piece – “Leave It To Me!!!” (Chapter #695) |
---|---|
Anime Debut |
One Piece – “Capture Caesar – General Cannon Blasts” (Episode #621) |
Despite being much larger than its master, Camel is quite compatible with Kuzan, as evidenced by how much time both of them spend sleeping. By virtue of being a super penguin, Camel is adept at treading water, allowing Kuzan to traverse long distances across water bodies without any fear about his Devil Fruit weaknesses.
Camel is often seen with a huge knapsack, which is likely a storage space for items in Kuzan’s possession that might have been difficult for him to transport on his own. It is also somewhat skilled at cooking and reportedly does not enjoy being referred to as “cute.” A lot of the time, Kuzan has been shown to sleep on Camel’s head while it treads water.
3 Su
Conis’ Cloud Fox
Manga Debut |
One Piece – “Angel Beast” (Chapter #239) |
---|---|
Anime Debut |
One Piece – “Godland Skypiea! The Angels Of the Cloud Beach” (Episode #154) |
Belonging to a species that is likely native to the Sky Islands in One Piece, Su is the Cloud Fox companion of Conis. Her appearance is not too different from that of a normal fox cub, apart from a long snout-like mouth, squinted eyes, a bushy tail that is lighter at the end, and pure white fur, which is depicted as being purple in the anime.
Su has displayed some comprehension of human speech, as she is able to respond to the statements made by Conis’ father, Pagaya. That being said, she primarily communicates through motions and gestures and is not capable of speech. She is fond of pumpkin juice and is fairly unbothered by loud situations, as she has been shown to sleep through them quite peacefully. Su shares an extremely close relationship with Conis and Pagaya, having actively tried to ease their worries in times of distress during the Skypiea Arc. Whether she is wide awake or fast asleep, Su is one of the cutest creatures in all of One Piece.
2 Karoo
Vivi’s Super Spot-Billed Duck Companion
Manga Debut |
One Piece – “Responsibility Problem” (Chapter #109) |
---|---|
Anime Debut |
One Piece – “Exploding Santoryu! Zoro vs. Baroque Works!” (Episode #65) |
The childhood friend and companion of the Princess of Arabasta, Nefertari Vivi, Karoo is a super spot-billed duck — one of the fastest land-based species in the Arabasta Kingdom. As the leader of the Super Spot-Billed Duck Troops in the kingdom, Karoo is one of the most well-conditioned physical specimens among his species. He can traverse long distances while surviving on only limited amounts of water and can even dodge gunshots when pushed to the limits.
For the most part, Karoo is quite cowardly, but he has also put his life on the line on several occasions to save those he cares about, especially Vivi. He can understand most human speech and is quite intelligent, but his role as a comic relief character often sees him making airheaded mistakes from time to time. Karoo joined Vivi in infiltrating Baroque Works and subsequently sailed with the Straw Hat Pirates on their journey to prevent Crocodile from taking control of Arabasta. On top of all this, Karoo is also an incredibly adorable creature who is sure to warm the hearts of all One Piece fans.
1 Tony Tony Chopper
A Reindeer-Human Hybrid And The Straw Hats’ Doctor
Manga Debut |
One Piece – “Dr. Kureha” (Chapter #134) |
---|---|
Anime Debut |
One Piece – “Are You Happy? The Doctor Who is Called a Witch!” (Episode #81) |
Originally a reindeer who gained human traits after eating the Hito Hito no Mi Devil Fruit, Chopper was trained as a doctor by both Hiriluk and Kureha. He is exceptionally intelligent and aspires to travel the world and learn how to cure virtually any disease using his vast array of medical knowledge. After the Drum Island Arc, he officially joined the Straw Hat Pirates as the ship’s doctor, and since then, he has accompanied them on their journey throughout Paradise and the New World.
It is no secret that Chopper is considered to be extremely cute by a lot of characters in the series and actual fans of One Piece, which is just one of the reasons behind his immense appeal as a member of the main cast. He has access to a series of transformations through a combination of his Devil Fruit and a series of drugs he created to augment his combat abilities. While his base form, known as “Brain Point,” exhibits a fairly chibi-like design, his other transformations are far more menacing, with the most powerful among them being his “Monster Point,” which vastly increases his size and strength.
