Dragon Ball Super’s Granolah arc ended in one of the biggest cliffhangers that has ever been shown in the entire history of the franchise. With the introduction of Black Frieza effortlessly defeating both Goku and Vegeta in their most powerful forms, the stage had been set for the series to begin the final showdown between the Galactic Tyrant and the Saiyans whom he took everything from.
However, the momentum of the series was then brought to a standstill at the start of the next arc. This is because fans were so excited to see the Saiyans finally confront Frieza at his strongest, only for Dragon Ball to retell the entire story of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie in an arc that took over 1 year to finish. However, Chapter 100 of the manga finally saw the end of the recap and a tweet from the author, Toyotarou, implied that the Black Frieza arc may be next, so let’s see why this one will be a game-changer.
The Return of the Series’ Best Villain
Ever since the Namek Saga aired in 1990, fans had been wishing to see more of Frieza. Though he did return at the beginning of the Android Saga, his appearance was short-lived as he was quickly cut down by Future Trunks along with his father, King Cold. It wasn’t until the second movie of Dragon Ball Super that fans would see the proper return of the Galactic Tyrant.
It was also in this movie that Frieza’s true destructive power and potential were teased, as he was able to attain a transformation so powerful that he could contend with Super Saiyan Blue, which he achieved in only 4 months. This was a great decision as millions of fans from around the world tuned in to see their favorite Dragon Ball villain back into the fold of the story and though he was eventually bested, the demand to see Frieza back in the franchise would not end as he was recruited on Universe 7’s team for the Tournament of Power.
Upon their victory, Frieza was granted resurrection and could continue his reign of terror across his universe. His ruthless attitude, sheer strength and demeaning insults to the Saiyans are why he remains such a memorable villain to this day and the ending of the Granolah arc showed that fans have not seen the last of him. With the return of Frieza in his most powerful state yet, fans are in for quite a journey as the heroes must work to defeat a villain who may even be stronger than Beerus himself!
Frieza has always been one of the best villains in all of fiction and is by far the most iconic enemy in Dragon Ball history. This leads to him being greatly loved by fans and, though he may not be the most nuanced villain due to his easy-to-understand goals, he holds a huge place in the hearts of lovers of the franchise and serves as the perfect villain for Goku and Vegeta!
Goku & Vegeta Are the Strongest They’ve Ever Been
With the Black Frieza arc poised to be the most recent one in the franchise, it will see the Z-Fighters fight against Frieza at their most powerful. After the Granolah arc, Goku unlocked True Ultra Instinct, a version of the technique refined to be the most efficient and powerful for Goku, as it allows him to use the incredible Divine Technique along with his Saiyan powers, making a form stronger than Mastered Ultra Instinct.
Vegeta, on the other hand, has finally unlocked his strongest form by utilizing the Divine Technique of the Gods of Destruction within the same arc. Ultra Ego allows Vegeta to get stronger with each hit that he takes and can also use the devastating Hakai technique that allows him to destroy anything in his path. In his fight against Granolah, he utilized the Energy of Destruction to make Ki Blasts strong enough to destroy planets!
More than just Goku and Vegeta, however, the other Z-Fighters are also needed to face a threat so powerful. In the Super Hero arc, both Gohan and Piccolo achieved new transformations that shot them up the power ladder into the same realm as Goku and Vegeta. Gohan Beast is an incredible transformation that destroyed Cell Max without any real effort, whereas Orange Piccolo was also able to inflict a great amount of damage on him, and Broly is a warrior with so much potential that he outclassed Super Saiyan Blue in just his first ever fight.
The Chance to Do Justice to a Fan-Favorite Character
When looking at the entire Dragon Ball franchise as a whole, no character has had the same level of character development as Vegeta, not even Goku. The one who started as a ruthless warrior who destroyed entire planets, Vegeta has since then learned the value of compassion, family, camaraderie and trust, and much of the reason for his growth and change in demeanor was Frieza himself!
At first, Vegeta was someone who worked under Frieza for years despite holding deep resentment against the villain for being the one responsible for destroying the planet and the people he was destined to rule. Frieza had taken everything from the Prince and had even killed him during their initial confrontation on Namek, with the history between the two being a bloody one filled with death and revenge.
Seeing Vegeta in the position and power that he is in right now, he remains the perfect candidate to finish Frieza off for good. Despite all the incredible character development the Prince has gotten throughout the years, the losses that he has suffered at the hands of Frieza have never been properly avenged by him, as others have always been the ones to finish him off before Vegeta can do anything. The worst offender of this is when Vegeta defeats Frieza fairly at the end of the Resurrection F movie, only to have Goku come in and get the final blow.
The death of his people, the destruction of his planet, and even his own death can be traced back to Frieza. So, more than anyone else, Vegeta deserves to be the one to put an end to the Frost Demon for good, as doing so would be the perfect addition to cap off Vegeta’s tremendous development throughout the series!
Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
