7 Star Wars Characters Who Don’t Deserve The Force

Highlights

  • Coleman Trebor couldn’t even save himself – a useless Jedi who met his end easily, no thanks to the Force.
  • Supreme Leader Snoke may manipulate but lacks impact. A clone with no originality, not special in the Force.
  • Pong Krell – a traitor Jedi who’s arrogant and fit only to throw lives away. Unworthy of wielding Force.

Star Wars has no shortage of Force using characters throughout its movies, games, TV, comics, and novels. The Force itself is an integral part of the franchise and nearly every story told therein references it in some way, with it either being mentioned in passing or having characters explicitly using it. Many of these Force-wielding characters have ended up becoming fan favorites due in part to how they use said Force powers, such as Obi-Wan, Darth Vader, or Starkiller (of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed fame).

There are, however, plenty of characters that either grossly misuse their abilities, while others suffer from not using them in a particularly impactful or imaginative way, if not being outright failures in the Force altogether. It’s these characters that make one wonder if they even deserve to have force powers at all.

7 Coleman Trebor

What Was this Guy’s Plan?

  • Species: Vurk
  • Affiliation: Jedi Order

Coleman Trebor is easily one of the most mocked Jedi characters in all of Star Wars for how little he accomplishes. Forget the fact that he looks like something out of Disney’s Dinosaur from 2000; he only exists to get killed by Jango Fett without even trying. He somehow made it through years of training only to forget all of it at the last second and get himself killed. He doesn’t rely on his saber skills to block blaster shots or use the Force in any capacity to save his own life (like yanking Fett’s guns away, perhaps). Truly, few are as undeserving of their supposed gifts as Coleman Trebor.

6 Supreme Leader Snoke

No Imagination, No Impact

  • Species: Clone
  • Affiliation: First Order

There’s no question that Snoke is a powerful Force user, being able to manipulate people in all sorts of unnatural ways, both physically and mentally. Snoke, however, utterly fails to perceive a threat that is right in front of him and ends up dying after accomplishing very little in the grand scheme of things.

What’s worse, many of his actions are a retread of Emperor Palpatine, and although he is technically his clone, Snoke is presented as a distinct character with his own motivations and goals. Despite his power, Snoke isn’t anything special when it comes to the Force.

5 Pong Krell

Not All Jedi are So Virtuous

images/news/2024/6/16/star-wars-characters-dont-deserve-the-force_3.jpg

  • Species: Besalisk
  • Affiliation: Jedi Order / Sith

Imagine Dexter Jettster, except he has Force powers and is constantly a jerk to everyone. This is Pong Krell, the Besalisk Jedi Master and traitor to the Republic. What makes Pong Krell undeserving of the Force is that he exudes none of the positive qualities a Jedi, let alone a Force user, ought to have. He’s arrogant and manipulative, in addition to being a liar. Krell is more than happy to throw lives away to further his goals and then act high and mighty about it. He’s not even a believer in the Separatist cause; he just wants to be on the “winning side” after the dust settles. He’s an opportunist unfit to wield the power he is blessed with.

4 Agen Kolar

Talk About Being Asleep at the Wheel

  • Species: Iridonian Zabrak
  • Affiliation: Jedi Order

Not many characters in Star Wars have as embarrassing a death as Agen Kolar does. Let’s not forget that this is a Jedi master who, despite his complete willingness to take on Chancellor Palpatine with Mace Windu, is utterly incapable of defending himself from a simple stabbing maneuver. He is also the first to be slain by the would-be emperor, which throws his comrades off balance and allows them to be easily taken out as well.

All of this man’s training and experience led to a moment in which he’s about as useful as a child. He may as well not have had Force powers at all.

3 Kylo Ren

Unoriginal and Indecisive

  • Species: Human
  • Affiliation: First Order

Kylo Ren is just a disappointment, no matter which aisle of the Force you look at it from. As a Light Side user, he’s so easily seduced by the Dark Side that it’s laughable, but as a Dark Side user, he’s never as committed to being evil as he needs to be to succeed. What’s worse is that Kylo, AKA Ben Solo, basically threw away a promising future in Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Order just so he could be a retread of his grandpa Darth Vader whilst disrespecting his Skywalker heritage. Kylo is the poster child for undeserved power because he is both ungrateful and ineffectual.

2 Padawan Sha’a Gi

Did this Guy Even Have the Force?

images/news/2024/6/16/star-wars-characters-dont-deserve-the-force_6.jpg

  • Species: Human
  • Affiliation: Jedi Order

His appearance and name might both be a reference to the widely known Scooby-Doo character, but Sha’a Gi may as well be exactly how Shaggy would act if he were teleported into Star Wars. Sha’a Gi is, much like his inspiration, a bit of a coward. In the short time he’s on-screen, he’s constantly on edge and completely disconnected from the Force when he most needs it.

In fact, this man really has no business being in the Jedi Order in retrospect, as it just brought him to a place in which he’d be brutally murdered. Who even greenlit his training? They should be fired.

1 Emperor Palpatine

Evil Dictators Should Not Have God-Like Powers

images/news/2024/6/16/star-wars-characters-dont-deserve-the-force_7.jpg

  • Species: Human
  • Affiliation: Sith

Sheev Palpatine is undeserving of the Force because he’s been nothing but a rotten person his whole life. Granted, this is what the Sith do, as they are the bad guys after all. Palpatine, however, is the baddest of the bad guys. He’s the most powerful Dark Side user and arguably the most successful Sith Lord ever. All he ever did with his power was hurt others via violence, manipulation, subjugation, or subterfuge.

If Palpatine never had the Force, the Clone Wars wouldn’t have happened and the Empire would never have formed. The Galaxy would literally be a million times better without him being strong with the Force.
