Highlights

  • The Void Century erased from records; crucial to One Piece story. Characters like Toki shaped future despite living in that time.
  • Zunesha, ally of Joyboy, speculated to aid in ancient battles. Poseidon controls Sea Kings; key to past and present events.
  • Imu, ruler of World Government, a significant figure from Void Century. Joyboy, the first pirate, left treasure on Laugh Tale.

The Void Century is a period in history that has been erased from all official records. This event occurred many centuries ago, during which twenty nations banded together to fight against the Great Kingdom.

The technological advancements of this kingdom were considered a threat by the rest of the world, which is why they were exterminated. The Void Century is arguably the most crucial part of the story of One Piece, so naturally, anyone who is associated with this period holds a level of importance. Even though these One Piece characters existed during the Void Century, their names still live on.

6 Kozuki Toki

Used Her Powers To Change The Future

Kozuki Toki was the wife of Oden and one of the most important characters in history. Toki ate the Toki Toki no Mi, a Devil Fruit that allowed her to travel in the future. The only drawback was that once she traveled into the future, there was no way for her to come back. She was originally born almost 830 years ago, so she was certainly alive during the Void Century.

Therefore, it is safe to say that Toki was knowledgeable about the events that took place within this time period. While Toki did not play an important role during the Void Century, she definitely affected the future. Her sacrifice allowed Momonosuke to travel to the future and recruit a powerful ally in Monkey D. Luffy. Without her bravery, the country of Wano would still be under Kaido’s rule.

5 Zunesha

An Ally Of Joyboy

One Piece fans were introduced to Zunesha almost immediately after the Dressrosa arc. The giant elephant roams the seas while carrying Zou on its back. From its size, it is clear that Zunesha is not an ordinary elephant, and there is more to it than just its massive body.

In the past, Zunesha used to be an ally of Joyboy. It is possible that the elephant helped Joyboy fight against the 20 countries, which is why it was punished and forced to roam the New World. For now, it’s only speculation, but it won’t be long before Oda reveals everything about the gigantic elephant.

4 Poseidon

One Of The Three Ancient Weapons

Poseidon is one of the three Ancient Weapons, along with Pluton and Uranus. According to the data available, Poseidon is the only living Ancient Weapon. What makes Poseidon dangerous is her ability to control the Sea Kings and make them do her bidding.

Currently, the power belongs to Shirahoshi, the mermaid princess of the Ryugu Kingdom. However, a Poseidon also existed during the Void Century, and she had formed a pact with Joyboy. Unfortunately, the promise could not be completed, and Poseidon never got the chance to use her powers to order the Sea Kings to move Noah to the surface.

3 Nefertari D. Lily

The Queen Of Alabasta

Nefertari D. Lily was the monarch of Alabasta during the Void Century. She and 19 other rulers joined arms to eliminate the threat of the Great Kingdom. It is very likely that Lily was unaware of the true intentions of the Imu and the other leaders, which is why she allied with them in the first place.

But, once she learned the truth, Lily decided to undo some damage. She released the Poneglyphs into the world so that others would find the truth. Lily also refused to live as a Celestial Dragon in Marijoa, instead opting to go back to Alabasta. However, Cobra did reveal that the unfortunate never made it back and was likely murdered by Imu and their aides.

2 Imu

Ruler Of The World

Imu is the current ruler of the World Government, making him the greatest authority within One Piece. He is also one of the two characters who existed during the Void Century. Imu is believed to have undergone the Immortality Operation, something that only the user of the Ope Ope no Mi can do. This meant that Imu was able to find the previous user of Ope Ope no Mi, and they were coerced into helping the would-be ruler of the world.

As the highest authority within the World Government, Imu’s decision is final. Even the Five Elders don’t have the power to overrule his decisions. In fact, they look up to him for guidance. It is unclear what Imu did in the past, but they were likely responsible for turning the other 19 countries against the Great Kingdom. With the story already in the Final Saga, there is a good chance Imu’s entire past will be disclosed to the audience.

1 Joyboy

The First Pirate

Joyboy is arguably the most important individual who lived during the Void Century. He was the first pirate in history, which is one of the main reasons why he is so significant to the story. Joyboy made a promise to the residents of Fish-Man Island, including Poseidon, but he could not keep it.

Joyboy possessed the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, which gave him access to the powers of the Sun God. When the Devil Fruit went back into circulation, the World Government tried to get its hands on the Devil Fruit. Joyboy used its power to fight the 20 kingdoms, but he could not beat them. Before his death, he left a valuable treasure on Laugh Tale, hoping that someone would find it.
