Since season one aired, Tokyo Revengers has been a tremendous success, blending an intriguing time travel plot with old school Japanese mafia themes. The manga, which concluded recently, ran for five years, with various plot arcs still awaiting adaptation into animation. That will change with the planned animated sequel, which will be based on a yuletide plot in the original material.
The Tokyo Revengers Christmas Showdown Arc is the following chapter in the anime’s plot, adapting the manga’s Christmas Conflict arc. This is the third of the series’ five arcs, therefore a full adaptation of the original material is anticipated. Here’s everything fans need know about the forthcoming second season of Tokyo Revengers, which is set to premiere in 2023.
Arc of Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown
Tokyo Revengers follows a twenty-six-year-old loser named Takemichi Hanagaki, whose disastrous life is made worse when the only girlfriend he’s ever had is killed by the Tokyo Manji street gang. Suddenly, Takemichi finds himself thrust back in time to his middle school years. Knowing what will happen if he repeats his former path, he vows to make a better future, and save his girlfriend Hinata.
The new season, Christmas Showdown Arc, will feature more factions of the gangs introduced in Tokyo Revengers’ first season. This includes the Black Dragons, a violent gang who target their Toman gang rivals. Taking place after the “Bloody Halloween Arc,” Takemichi and the Tokyo Manji Gang have to face rivals who span generations in power. All the while, Takemichi realizes that the changes he had made in the past didn’t fix his future, but resulted in a wildly different outcome than he ever could have expected.
The Christmas Showdown Arc Trailer
The first trailer for Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown Arc showcased still images of the cast members, with each one discussing that they are all going to Shibuya for gang activities. Neither the dialogue nor the imagery gave much to go on for those who had never read the manga.
This changed with the most recent trailer, which gave more direction in terms of the plot and character development. Showcased prominently in the trailer are the Black Dragons, namely their leader, Taiju Shiba. His actions and mannerisms instantly portray him as a ruthless leader. Other elements made clear are the striking differences between some characters in this timeline.
The Christmas Showdown Arc’s Release Date
As with the first season, Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown Arc is produced by the animation studio Liden Films. The second season is currently set to air in early January 2023, with the voice cast from Season 1 returning to reprise their roles, with the exception being Tatsuhisa Suzuki. Suzuki had voiced Ken Ryuguji in the first set of episodes, but he’ll now be replaced by Masaya Fukinishi in Christmas Showdown Arc.
There’s been no confirmation on how many episodes the new season will have. The first season of Tokyo Revengers had 24 episodes, but it adapted two of the franchise’s main story arcs. Christmas Showdown Arc, if the name is anything to go by, will likely only adapt the “Christmas Conflict” storyline.
While Season 1 can be streamed in the west through Crunchyroll, but that won’t be the case for its followup. Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown Arc will be exclusively streamed on Disney+, representing the streaming platform’s growing dedication to having a library of quality anime series.
