Mortal Kombat 2 is seemingly coming with the villain Quan Chi. At least, that’s what fans have deduced based on a new set photo from producer Todd Garner.

Mortal Kombat was released in 2021, starring Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Josh Lawson (Kano), Mehcad Brooks (Jackson “Jax” Briggs), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Max Huang (Kung Lao), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Chin Han (Shang Tsung) and Joe Taslim (Bi-Han/Sub-Zero). The film was a hit on Max, and due to its success, it scored a sequel. Mortal Kombat 2 is already in production, and producer Garner just hinted about the involvement of a powerful demon in the anticipated sequel.

Garner shared a photo on X, formerly Twitter, seemingly teasing fans on what to expect in Mortal Kombat 2. The producer didn’t add any caption, but it was clear to fans that the hand belonged to the Mortal Kombat franchise villain Quan Chi. “Quan!?” one asked with multiple fire emojis. Another seemingly shared the same opinion and wrote, “Quan Chi?” A third user sounded sure in his comment, writing, “Yes!! Quan Chi,” along with a clip featuring the powerful demon necromancer from the Netherrealm.

The post is enough to stir excitement among fans waiting for Mortal Kombat 2 for two years. One even shared a GIF of Quan Chi, saying, “I will not disappoint,” agreeing because he knew the character would not let down Mortal Kombat fans. Meanwhile, a few netizens were not sure. One said it was difficult to determine the character only by looking at the photo. The netizen said the hand belonged to Ermac while acknowledging that the movie franchise had gone the classic game route. Another suggested that the hand could belong to either Shinnok or Quan Chi. Most netizens were convinced that it was Quan Chi’s hand, and they had high expectations from the character. One hoped to see him giving a “hell priest vibe” because it had always been his vision of the character in the Mortal Kombat films.

The excitement about Quan Chi’s involvement in the sequel is understandable. Quan Chi has played a huge role in the franchise and is even among the strongest kombatants in Mortal Kombat lore. Also, he presents an interesting persona with superpowers. Players love him as a villain because he is hard to beat, making the game more challenging and fun.

Considering what he could bring, seeing Quan Chi in Mortal Kombat 2 would make the sequel more fun and thrilling. Quan Chi, who first appeared in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, is considered the most powerful sorcerer in Netherrealms. He is also known as the most faithful servant of Shinnok, worshipped by an ancient and fanatic cult of demons and evil conjurers. So, imagine how duplicitous, conniving, depraved, perverse, arrogant, and badass Quan Chi’s character would be. He was also responsible for killing Hanzo Hasashi’s family and Shirai Ryu’s clan and framing Sub-Zero for the crime. Quan Chi played a massive role in turning Hanzo into the undead warrior Scorpion. There are high expectations of Quan Chi, as the character is something to watch out for.
