Rimuru Tempest, the protagonist of the That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime anime and manga series, has evolved with some abilities that place him heads and shoulders above many others. Despite reincarnating as a slime, the weakest of races, Rimuru gained abilities that made him superior even to the likes of fairies and wyverns, which are mythical and powerful creatures in their own right.
Some of Rimuru’s most notable abilities include Raphael and Beelzebub. Beelzebub in particular can be seen as Rimuru’s trademark skill as it allows him to absorb a variety of things, including attacks from his adversaries. Having Beelzebub in his arsenal makes Rimuru an invisible force, as its limitations in That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime are next to none.
Origin Of Rimuru’s Ability
Beelzebub Was Created Rather Than Acquired
As powerful as it is, Rimuru didn’t always have Beelzebub. Initially, the skill started off as Predator, which further evolved into Gluttony before becoming Beelzebub. Predator was a unique skill that allowed Rimuru to absorb and store a variety of materials in his metaphysical stomach. Once absorbed, the materials would be analyzed, and duplicated or craftable copies would become available. To create Guttony, Predator was combined with Starved, a unique skill of the Orc Lord he defeated during the Forest Disturbance arc. Starved allowed the Orc Lord to grant his subordiantes the ability to eat whatever they come across; however, they’ll always feel starved regardless of what they eat. When Rimuru absorbed the skill, its good parts combined with Predator, while the side effects became non-existent. To this extent, Gluttony was born.
Gluttony proved a useful ability. However, at that moment, it wasn’t overpowered. But after Rimuru murdered the soldiers of Falmuth in an outrage, he then sacrificed the skill Merciless to evolve Gluttony into Beelzebub.
Beelzebub: Rimuru’s Most Overpowered Ability
A Storage Of Infinite Potential
Rimuru’s ability is inherently similar to that of a black hole that can store things. Anything from magic attacks to his own aura, can be stored. Due to how various skills have been sacrificed to upgrade Beelzebub, a skill known as the king of gluttony, Beelzebub is more than a limitless storage space. Any target stored will be analyzed, and Rimuru can take on that target’s appearance, or if it’s an item, craft the item. Beelzebub’s powers of corrosion and soul consumption are also notable. For soul consumption in particular, this ability was inherited through the sacrificing of Merciless. With it, Rimuru can easily eat the souls of his adversaries, killing them whenever he wishes. At the core of Beelzebub lies Predator and Gluttony. Other abilities such as analysis, corrosion, stomach, isolation, and mimicry have a secondary effect.

Beelzebub Allows Rimuru To Perform Incredible Feats
Beelzebub is one ability that has turned the tide of many battles for Rimuru. Rimuru’s skill, Gluttony, evolved into Beelzebub during the Harvest Festival, during which Rimuru turned into a Demon Lord. To bring back the lives of his loyal servants and fellow monsters, Rimuru erected a barrier to prevent the soul fragments of the deceased from escaping. After that, he sacrificed Gluttony, and used Beelzebub to consume the soul fragments of all the deceased to resurrect them. Consuming the scattered soul fragments like magicules, Rimuru’s evolved skill, Beelzebub, showed that it was truly capable of many feats.

As Rimuru’s most powerful skill, Beelzebub truly shines when Rimuru absorbs and analyzes his adversaries and their skills. With Beelzebub and its sub abilities, Rimuru is able to absorb his targets (using predation), analyze what has been ingested, and mimic the abilities and appearance of what was absorbed. With Beelzebub, anytime Rimuru faces a powerful adversary, he only gets stronger, adding his opponent’s skills to his own.
Interestingly, Beelzebub is also capable of absorbing Rimuru’s mana. Demon lords and powerful beings like the Storm Dragon Veldora emit powerful auras that could level a city and kill off weaker beings. Rather than prevent himself from emitting an aura like Veldora, which takes on a toll on him (Veldora), he simply chugs everything into his near limitless stomach, a function of Beelzebub.
What Might Rimuru’s Evolving Abilities Mean For Future Battles?
Beelzebub Remains A Skill With Potential To Defy Natural Laws
As an already overpowered ability, Rimuru’s Beelzebub getting more powerful would be hard to imagine. However, if Rimuru’s ability were to further evolve, what would come to mind would be things like the ability to absorb and duplicate more complex and powerful beings, expanded storage, and particularly, the ability to absorb more powerful attacks. As seen during Rimuru’s first battle with Hinata Sakaguchi, he had to make a copy of himself to serve as a distraction so he could escape. With a more powerful Beelzebub, Rimuru would be able to absorb more powerful attacks from his adversaries without employing tricks to win.
