The latest episode of Demon Slayer revealed where the Love Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji, got her iconic socks.
The anime’s most recent outing — Episode 10, “Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji” — looked into the backstory of the episode’s titular character. Within this backstory came the origin of one of the demon slayer’s most iconic pieces of clothing: the pinstripe green thigh-high socks she always wears. The item was a gift from her fellow Hashira, Obanai Iguro the Serpent Hashira, deeply implying that the latter has romantic feelings for Mitsuri.
How Demon Slayer Revealed the Origin
This reveal came in a flashback that explored the early stages of Mitsuri’s life and how she became a Hashira. During the sequence was a scene where she and Obanai were in a restaurant together, and the Serpent Hashira handed the socks over to her. Obanai acted shy and awkward, but Mitsuri was elated, excitedly accepting the gift and thanking her colleague. Obanai then confirmed his romantic feelings by letting her know that even if she broke these, he would always get new ones for her.
Fans of the series were surprised by the development, as the Serpent Hashira has always been presented as a stoic character who hates everyone. The reveal that he provided Mitsuri with a piece of her iconic wardrobe has led to an influx of “shipping” posts, with people expressing their love for the potential couple.
Demon Slayer’s Episode Explored More About Mitsuri
The latest episode came with many more revelations about the beloved Love Hashira, including her obtaining her Demon Slayer mark. In addition, the chapter also gave a firm look at her breathing technique, the Love Breathing style. Fans were thrilled with the visual depiction of this technique, as Ufotable, the animation studio behind Demon Slayer, received high-acclaim from viewers after the episode’s premiere. Finally, Mitsuri’s love life was also explored, detailing her failed first engagement, her lengths to secure a new husband and her final revelation about finding someone who can love her for who she is.
Demon Slayer is in the “Swordsmith Village” arc, which follows Tanjiro and Nezuko as they venture to the titular village to get a new Nichrin sword. However, their peaceful journey is soon interrupted by a pair of Upper-Rank demons from Muzan Kibutsuji’s army. Tanjiro, Nezuko and fellow demon slayer Genya Shinazugawa are forced to protect the village from these threats alongside Mitsuri and the Mist Hashira Muchiro Tokito.
The season finale of the “Swordsmith Village” arc is scheduled for June 18, 2023, and will be 70 minutes long.
