Satoru Gojo’s voice actor doesn’t understand why Jujutsu Kaisen fans are in love with his character.
A Jujutsu Kaisen news account called Myamura (or @king_jin_woo) recently highlighted Nakamura’s comments regarding Gojo’s following, which were directly primarily at those who only watch the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series. “I wonder why he’s so popular,” Nakamura mused. “When people say ‘I like Gojo. He’s so cool, he’s popular.’ I honestly don’t get it and it makes me think, ‘You are calling a guy cool whom you honestly don’t really know much about. Are you guy’s alright? lol.”
Gojo Is a Jujutsu Kaisen Fan-Favorite Character
There is little room to deny Satoru Gojo’s status as a fan-favorite character, as the silver-haired jujutsu sorcerer is a recurring subject in cosplay. One noteworthy example includes Redditor Niicosercos’ tribute, which perfectly replicates Gojo’s black outfit, glasses and piercing blue eyes. Another Gojo cosplayer, known as Venture_Bros on Instagram, recreated a promotional art with the character lifting one part of his iconic blindfold. The character also frequently appears in Jujutsu Kaisen fanart, including one portrait which gives Gojo a photo-realistic style makeover.
Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen manga introduces a mentor figure to the series’ protagonist, Yuji Itadori, who initially studies under him at the Tokyo Metropolitan College of Arts and Sciences. As the plot progresses, the character gains a more prominent role, becoming a critical player in several major arcs, including one dedicated to exploring a major event from Gojo’s past. The series’ current arc, Shinjuku Showdown, covers Gojo’s long-awaited return from the prison realm and the jujutsu gangs’ preparations to take down Sukuna, the ‘King of Curses.’
Jujutsu Kaisen outsold all its competition in 2022, selling over 12.2 million copies in that year alone. As of March 2023, the manga has over 70 million copies total in circulation worldwide. The franchise’s first anime film, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, was also a major financial success, pulling in over 13.80 billion yen (roughly $98.3 million) at the Japanese box office. It ultimately became the nation’s second highest-grossing movie of 2022, lagging just behind Toei Animation’s One Piece Film: Red. MAPPA is currently producing Season 2 of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime, which is slated to debut this July. In May, the studio unveiled the season’s first trailer, which spotlights Satoru Gojo’s upcoming clash with Toji Fushiguro.
The Jujutsu Kaisen manga is available in English from VIZ. MAPPA’s anime adaptation is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
