Uta and Yamato get reimagined as modern-day besties in this amazing One Piece fan art.
An artist named Takeuchi Ryosuke (@/ryosuketarou) uploaded their modernized One Piece fan art on Twitter. In Ryosuke’s artwork, Uta and Yamato are having a night on the town. Among the crowd in the background are familiar faces from the One Piece series.
One Piece Character Cameos in the Fan Art
Of course, the most obvious cameos are Roronoa Zoro, Trafalgar D. Water Law and Tony Tony Chopper. However, there are deeper cuts in the crowd, such as Jango the Turncoat from the East Blue Saga. The person to the right of Jango appears to be the back of an older Koby, the Marine Captain that Monkey D. Luffy first met as a kid when he began his adventure for the One Piece. The white bear in the crowd appears to be the artist’s nod to Pandaman, Eiichiro Oda’s joke character.
Uta and Yamato are both compelling and influential characters in the world of One Piece. Yamato plays a significant role in the Wano Country story arc, where the Straw Hat Pirates fight against Kaidou and his Beasts Pirates in an isolated country inspired by feudal Japan. Uta is the star of One Piece Film: Red, the 2022 animated movie that has Luffy reuniting with the world-famous singer and revealing she’s the adoptive daughter of “Red-Haired” Shanks. While Uta has the voice of an angel, her attitude towards her fans and Luffy was kinda yandere.
Although Uta seems like an anime-only character, Oda included her in the background for Chapter 1055 of the manga. She also made an appearance in the anime TV series. Meanwhile, One Piece fans can see more of Yamato in the anime adaptation of the Wano Country arc. Henry Thurlow, the first American animator to direct an episode of One Piece, believes the Wano Country finale will blow away the likes of Bleach and Demon Slayer. Thurlow will direct Episode 1066 of One Piece slated to air this month.
One Piece is currently available on streaming services like Crunchyroll, Hulu and Tubi. Viz Media handles the English release of the manga. A live-action One Piece TV series for Netflix will release sometime in 2023.
