- Fans speculate on past characters returning, but Eddie Munson’s storyline should be left in the past for the final season of Stranger Things.
- Eddie Munson’s impactful death should not be minimized with potential flashbacks or visions in season 5, preserving his character arc.
- The focus of Stranger Things season 5 should remain on current main storylines, honoring Eddie’s memory through the actions of other characters.
While fans will have to be patient until 2025 to see the final season of Netflix‘s Stranger Things, it’s hard not to try to guess if any past characters are going to come back. Since this is the end, it feels like anything could happen. Although Stranger Things season 5 could worsen an issue from the previous season, fans are still excited about the last opportunity to see The Party, Hawkins, Indiana, and the Upside Down. Every time an actor gives an interview and mentions the upcoming season, viewers wonder what it could all mean.
In June 2024, Joseph Quinn made a comment that made fans wonder if Eddie Munson will appear in Stranger Things season 5. Although he’s a fan-favorite character who had one of the most well-crafted plotlines in season 4, there are some reasons why Eddie shouldn’t come back.
Why Eddie Munson Shouldn’t Be In Stranger Things Season 5
In June 2024, Joseph Quinn told Entertainment Tonight about the cast and crew of Stranger Things, “I love those guys! I’d love to say hello.” When he was asked about Eddie being in the next season, he said:
“I might have that feeling too… Or maybe I don’t. I don’t know! Who knows?”
Eddie’s death will feel more meaningful if he doesn’t come back for Stranger Things season 5, and it would feel more realistic if his character is left in the past. While Eddie should have gotten more storylines, the final part of his character arc is moving, perfectly told, and as emotional as it is entertaining.
There are only a few possible ways Joseph Quinn to return to Stranger Things season 5 as Eddie Munson: in flashbacks or perhaps coming to another character in a vision. These would both be disappointing since they would lessen the impact of his death. Rewatching the Stranger Things season 4 finale would feel less scary and gripping if fans knew that they would see Eddie again. While it’s sad for the other characters to grieve this loss, Eddie’s death finishes off his arc as a rebel turned hero, and that’s an important part of the series.
One of the strongest parts of Eddie’s character arc was his friendship with underrated character Chrissy Cunningham (Grace Van Dien), and since they are both gone, it’s more powerful if The Party doesn’t see either of these characters again. The other characters willhonor Eddie and Chrissy’s memories by fighting Vecna and know that a lot of people suffered at the hands of this eerie villain.
Stranger Things season 5 also needs to focus on several main storylines, from concluding Will Byers’s (Noah Schnapp) arc to saving Hawkins to beating Vecna and telling fans what is going to happen to the main characters now. It doesn’t make sense to focus on past characters, no matter how much fans would like to see Eddie again thanks to his strong sense of humor, loyalty, compassion, rebellious nature, and intelligence.
What Happened To Eddie Munson In Stranger Things Season 4?
Eddie Munson went through a lot in Stranger Things season 4, and even though he was only introduced in this season, he quickly became a popular character. Eddie runs the Hellfire Club at Hawkins High School and, right away, Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) looks up to him and wants to be like him. Eddie is defined by his friendships with Chrissy Cunningham and Dustin since they are both unlikely choices for him. He realizes that he shouldn’t judge other people or assume he won’t like them since he’s used to people in Hawkins underestimating him.
While fans can’t agree on certain parts of Stranger Things season 5, they likely will always remember Eddie as one of the strongest and most well-written characters on the Netflix series. This is thanks to his final scene when Eddie plays the Metallica song “Master of Puppets” in the Upside Down. He attracts several Demobats and is unfortunately killed.
In an interview with Netflix.tudum.com, Joseph Quinn shared that he is glad that so many fans enjoyed watching Eddie Munson in Stranger Things season 4.
“There seems to be something in his story that is touching people — being falsely accused, redemption, I guess, is a motif in his story, self-sacrifice, friendship, camaraderie.”
Since Eddie had such a great storyline, it would be a shame to risk changing it in any way, shape or form in Stranger Things season 5. Although the ending of the Netflix series sadly won’t include Eddie, fans will be thinking about him and the fact that he risked his life to help his new friends.
