Dragon Ball is a series predicated on strength and fighting above all else. Though there are aspects and deeper themes in the story than what people can see on the surface, it’s no secret that this series is the definition of Shonen and further strength is always the end goal for the heroes. With that said, the strongest characters in the series have always been pitted against each other by fans to see whose strength is absolute!
In this debate, Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta was a character who stood at the apex for a whopping 16 years! Though Dragon Ball ventured into a different, non-canon direction with the divisive GT series, Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta was a character that almost every single fan of the series fell in love with, whether they appreciated GT or not. So, let’s look at who this character was and why he is still remembered in the fandom today!

The final arc of Dragon Ball GT was one that many fans of the series believed to be its strongest. After decades of overuse of the Dragon Balls, the magical orbs finally reached their limit. These elusive treasures were meant to only be found and used very sparingly, but everything changed because of the invention of the Dragon Radar, making them seem more like playthings that were found very often and used to grant simple wishes.
This misuse led to the corruption of the Dragon Balls and the creation of the Shadow Dragons, which essentially acted as evil versions of Shenron who were born from the many times they had been used over the course of the franchise. The strongest of these villains was the terrifying Syn Shenron, the One-Star Dragon who eventually swallowed the others, becoming the strongest monster that the series had ever seen up to that point; Omega Shenron. Omega was so strong that even powerhouses like Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Vegeta couldn’t hurt him.
After coming to grips with the reality of the situation, Goku asks Vegeta to fuse using the Fusion Dance technique, to which the Saiyan Prince begrudgingly agrees. The result of this fusion sees the unequaled strength of 2 Super Saiyan 4’s merge into a singularly powerful warrior who outscaled pretty much everyone else in the entire franchise up until that point.
Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta was someone whose power is still difficult to quantify to this day. This is because Omega Shenron, who was practically invincible by all stretches of the imagination, was no more than a toy to the Saiyan, as he never even really took the fight seriously until the very end. The display of Gogeta’s power against Omega Shenron remains one of the most one-sided beatdowns in the franchise’s storied history!
The Saiyans? They’re here. I am they – we are one. Unfortunately for you, Omega!
Gogeta’s Personality
The only time the character of Gogeta had ever been seen before was in his brief but iconic appearance in the Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn movie. In the film, he had a very stern and serious demeanor, wasting no time in killing Janemba. His GT iteration was completely different, however, since this version seemed to take on Goku’s more lighthearted and fun traits.
Since his entire showing was just a flex of how much more powerful he was than Omega Shenron, he didn’t really take the fight seriously, as he just mostly toyed with his opponent. However, at certain moments, he took on Goku’s more serious aspects as well as Vegeta’s signature cockiness, since he knew that Omega could not do anything to him, no matter how hard he tried.

Gogeta’s Power and Skills
Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta’s power was unlike anything that fans had ever seen before in the franchise. His power was so great that the combined strength of all 7 Shadow Dragons inside of Omega Shenron was practically nothing to him. He even used some moves the likes of which have never been seen before.
He also possessed the ability to manipulate Ki in special ways that Goku and Vegeta haven’t really been shown to do individually. One example of this is when he takes Omega Shenron’s strongest attack, the Negative Karma Ball, head-on and kicks it into the atmosphere, turning all the negative energy in it into positive energy with a simple touch, healing the world in the process.
Notable Techniques
- Invisible Eye Attack: The first attack he inflicted on Omega. This is just an extremely powerful blast of invisible Ki that he shoots from his eyes that’s strong enough to send Omega flying.
- Multi-Form: A brief move he uses on Omega where he splits his body into multiple forms to fool him. This is something very few characters can do.
- Big Bang Kamehameha: A mixture of Goku and Vegeta’s signature moves; the Big Bang Attack and the Kamehameha. Strong enough to turn Omega back into Syn Shenron with a single, uncharged hit.
