All across the world, there are a few characters that have as much of an everlasting legacy in One Piece as the legendary swordsman, Kozuki Oden. Hailing from Wano Country, Oden quickly shot up the ranks as one of the island’s most revered and powerful swordsmen, capable of decapitating beasts the size of mountains with just a single strike. His power was so legendary that he eventually became a part of the legendary crew of Gol D. Roger!
Being a part of the Pirate King’s notorious crew made Oden’s name famous across the One Piece world. During his exploits with the Roger Pirates, the swords he used became just as legendary as he was and have since passed on to his children. There is much more to their story than this, as they were considered to be the masterworks of legendary Wano Country blacksmiths, so let’s take a look at these iconic blades!

Known as one of the 21 Great Grade Blades, Enma is one of the strongest and most sought-after blades in One Piece. Made by the legendary blacksmith of Wano Country, Shimotsuki Kozaburo, Enma was described by the creator himself to be his most important and greatest work. Originally wielded by Oden, Hyori commented on it being more than a worthy replacement for the legendary Shusui, which Zoro had given up.
Even before Oden became the legendary swordsman he’s known as today, he could still use Enma and Ame no Habakiri to decapitate the Mountain God, which was a gigantic beast, which he did at the age of 18. Moreover, Enma was so powerful that it was able to take a hit from 2 Supreme Grade weapons on 2 separate occasions without being reinforced by Armament Haki, not even taking substantial damage after the fact.
Enma… So what this means is that once I’ve gotten used to this sword, I’ll be even stronger?!
Enma is imbued with the unique trait of drawing out the Haki within a person. This was seen when its new wielder, Roronoa Zoro, used it for the first time and cut part of the coastline in Wano, which also made his arm drained and emaciated, as it took out all of his Haki to deliver such a powerful slash. However, with Zoro being an adept user of Armament Haki, he was able to reverse this effect.
This incredible ability mixed with its masterful craftsmanship makes Enma one of the most dangerous weapons in the entire series. Because of this, Enma and Ame no Habakiri remained the only weapons to ever damage Kaido in his nigh-invulnerable dragon form, which is why he recognized the blade when in Zoro’s hand during the Onigashima raid. Sukiyaki even admitted that if Zoro mastered the blade and permanently made it black, it could even go on to become a Supreme Grade weapon!

The Ame no Habakiri was made by Kozuki Sukiyaki and was seen as the mirror to Enma in terms of the themes they both embodied. While Enma has more details of its creation and powers known by fans, Ame no Habakiri is thought to be just as powerful, as it was also another one of the 21 Great Grade Blades and was one of the preferred weapons of the legendary Kozuki Oden.
After hardening his blades with Armament Haki, Oden reinforced both of his swords at the age of 18 to decapitate the Mountain God. As for feats, Ame no Habakiri’s are the same as Enma since both were used at the same time by Oden, so just like its darker counterpart, this blade was able to take hits from Ace and Murkumogiri, the Supreme Grade weapons of Roger and Whitebeard respectively, without even being reinforced with Armament Haki and withstood blows from them.
Ame no Habakiri, that cuts down the Heavens…
During the clash against Roger, Ace was imbued with Conquerer’s Haki, so the damage the blades withstood was even greater than normal. Moreover, Ame no Habakiri was one of the few weapons to have ever damaged Kaido, even in his incredibly durable dragon form, dealing such substantial damage to the villain that the scars he received from the fight exist on his body to this day.
After the death of the legendary swordsman at the hands of Kaido, Ame no Habakiri somehow found its way back into the hands of its creator, Sukiyaki, on Wano. He then proceeded to keep it safe as a designated heirloom of Oden’s family, eventually passing it down to Oden’s son, Momonosuke.
