Jujutsu Kaisen is currently in its Shinjuku Showdown arc, and the story is certainly incredibly exciting, with each passing chapter being more robust than the previous one. This arc has tackled some of the most exciting battles, and while that is the case with most arcs in this series, the thing that sets this particular arc apart is the incredible clash of the titans that took place in Shinjuku, between Gojo Satoru, the strongest modern sorcerer, and Ryomen Sukuna, the strongest sorcerer in history.
This was a clash that had every fan incredibly excited, and with each passing chapter, set the world alight. While both of them were evenly matched in battle for the most part, one of them had to lose and this character ended up being Gojo, for narrative purposes. Of course, Gojo did not just lose this battle but also ended up losing his life. That was certainly confirmed in the story, however, it certainly is not final. Gojo can potentially return to the story, and it is possible that this return is closer than fans would imagine.
Gojo’s Death
Gojo Met His End While Fighting Sukuna
Gojo versus Sukuna was an incredibly exciting battle that lasted for several chapters in Jujutsu Kaisen. This battle was an incredibly even one, and it had moments where Gojo was on top, and others where Sukuna was on top. Of course, Gojo was fighting with a handicap in this battle, especially because Sukuna was using Megumi’s body, and at the same time, had access to the 10 Shadows Technique. Gojo had his back against the wall in this battle right from the very beginning, however, he still did incredibly well to hold his own. In fact, for the vast majority of this battle, Gojo was actually on top. As it continued, his efficiency in combat rose as well, and Gojo actually started being dominating, despite being up against multiple figures.
You were magnificent, Satoru Gojo. I shall never forget you for as long as I live.
Despite the numbers, Gojo was actually dominant and eliminated both Mahoraga and Aguto easily. Gojo even used a remote Hollow Purple to deal deadly damage to both Sukuna and himself, getting rid of Mahoraga in the process too. Yet, even though he did all that, Gojo ended up dying in a flash. This happened especially when Sukuna figured out how to bypass Infinity. While it technically should not have been possible, the author made it so in his story, and at the end of it all, Gojo’s Infinity was bypassed and he ended up dying.
Gojo’s Unfinished Business
Gojo Still Had Many Reasons To Come Back
While Gojo’s death was confirmed immediately after, it is clear for the fans to see that he still has some unfinished business left. For one, Gojo still has his dream to fulfill. Gojo wants to create a world where the rotten don’t control society. He mentioned that he had enough strength to get rid of the higher-ups all by himself, however, that wouldn’t create a lasting system and after his death, things would just go back to the way they were. As a result, Gojo ended up becoming a teacher to raise the next generation in the right way, which would then bring about a revolution.
Gojo wanted to change the world in his own way, and this goal of his remains unfulfilled. Of course, it wouldn’t be a surprise to know that a character died with unfulfilled goals in the story, however, it is certainly unlikely that a character as important as Gojo simply dies without accomplishing much in the story. Gojo still has his students to take care of and raise, especially because they are nowhere near the desired level at this point in time. For that reason, along with many others, Gojo must absolutely live.
Furthermore, fans also know that Gojo wants to be the one who tells Megumi the truth about his father, Toji Fushiguro. While he certainly did say that Shoko would take care of that for him, the weight that this moment would carry is then completely lost in the story. In order for this to hold any meaningful importance, Gojo must absolutely he has to be alive. Furthermore, fans also know that Gojo wanted to give a proper burial to Geto’s body.
The fact that Yuta has now successfully killed Kenjaku and freed Suguru Geto from his grasp is a blessing for Gojo, as, now, he wouldn’t have to kill his best friend, and more importantly, he can give him the burial that he deserved.
Most importantly, Gojo’s character arc itself isn’t complete. Gojo was always known to be the strongest, however, the question of whether he is the strongest because he is Gojo or if he is Gojo because he’s the strongest is still on the shelf. Gojo is known as the strongest and that is what defines him, however, this particular character can and should be explored more, where he’s forced to see what he truly is, aside from being the strongest.
How Gojo Satoru Will Be Revived
Shoko Holds The Key To Gojo’s Return
Gojo Satoru died an early and unexpected death in Jujutsu Kaisen. However, he can certainly return. For one, fans know that his body has safely been secured by Ui Ui, and taken back to Shoko. This in itself is proof of the fact that Gojo has a chance to return. While Sukuna believes that Shoko cannot save him due to her reverse cursed technique not being all that powerful and Gojo having sustained an injury that cannot be healed from easily, there is absolutely a chance for her to hold a special ace up her sleeve that would allow her to save his life. Fans already know that she’s going to be attempting to heal other injured individuals, such as Higuruma, and even Yuta, who also sustained a world-splitting slash. If Yuta and Higuruma can survive, then Gojo has a chance as well.
That child possesses an instantaneous teleportation technique. I’m sure Satoru Gojo’s body vanishing was their doing as well.
A lot of this rests on the shoulders of Shoko, and it is entirely possible that this is going to be her entire importance in the story. That is as sad as it sounds. However, at this point in time, is the only way through which Gojo can potentially live. While healing Gojo is likely going to be hard, one should also take into consideration the fact that Gojo is a prodigy. If Shoko heals him a bit, he can then aid the healing process himself because he possesses reverse cursed technique of the highest order.
At this point, Gojo’s return looks like it is set in stone. However, the Gojo that fans see after he returns might actually end up being starkly different from what they are used to. This is because Gojo, upon having a face-off with death itself, had the opportunity to choose two paths. He could either stay in the south, with his friends, and be the version that he was, or head north, and seek a completely new version of himself.
Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 257, is set to be April 21, 2024.
