Meg Griffin is one of the most important characters on Family Guy and was played by two different actors throughout the TV show’s run. Meg is Lois and Peter Griffin’s teenage daughter who has a tough time and doesn’t always feel accepted by her family. She also desperately wants to be popular. Although she is a crucial part of the TV series, she isn’t a universally popular character. While Brian Griffin is one of the best animals on an animated sitcom, some viewers have critiqued Meg since the start.
While voice actors Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, and Seth Green have played Chris, Lois, and Peter Griffin since the beginning, two actors voiced Meg Griffin. Here’s why Meg was replaced after season 1 of Family Guy.
Lacey Chabert Voiced Meg In Family Guy Season 1 And Quit
When wondering who played Meg in Family Guy season 1, fans need to know the story behind the casting change. Lacey Chabert voiced Meg in season 1 but couldn’t commit to playing the character for longer than that. Since she played Claudia Salinger in Party of Five, she decided to stay on that TV show instead.

According to The Huffington Post, Lacey Chabert was interviewed by GameSpy and explained what happened. When asked if she was upset that another actress played Meg after her, Chabert said:
“No, I actually left the show of my own accord. And only because I was in school and doing Party Of Five at the time. But I think the show is hilarious, and don’t have a grudge against her at all. I think she’s a great actress.”
While Meg is a significant part of many popular Family Guy episodes, she isn’t a character that every fan enjoys watching. Although some feel that she is too harsh to her relatives, others think everyone should be nicer to her. Regardless of how fans feel about her, it’s interesting to find out that a different actress voiced Meg in season 1 of Family Guy than the rest of the series.
Mila Kunis Has Voiced Meg Since Season 2 Of Family Guy
Mila Kunis has voiced Meg Griffin since Family Guy season 2 and is the actor that fans most associate with the character. She spoke highly of the animated sitcom in a 2010 interview with Entertainment Weekly and said:
“I started halfway through season 2. I’d never seen the show. I was like, ‘This show’s funny. It’s so weird. And there’s a talking dog. What is this show
about
?'”
Kunis continued:
“We recorded down the street from
’70s
, so it was easy to get to once a week. Never in my life did I think that 10 years later I’d be here talking about it. The show is brilliant. I hope
Family Guy
never ends. It’s the greatest job on the planet.”
While Mila Kunis is known for her movie roles like Rachel in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Lori in Ted, she has had a long career in TV. She showed her memorable comedic talent as Meg on Family Guy and also Jackie Burkhart on That ’70s Show. Kunis plays Meg as an endearing character who is trying to grow up and find out who she is. While her need for attention, praise, and popularity can be frustrating for some fans, her overall journey is relatable, despite the harsh overall tone of Family Guy.

Meg Griffin is the focus of many of the Family Guy episodes that have improved and she has many quotes on the animated sitcom that stand out. After Mila Kunis began playing Meg in season 2 of Family Guy, the character said some of her most memorable and humorous quotes yet.
