Itador Yuji is the protagonist of JJK and certainly one of the most interesting characters in the story. From the very beginning, Yuji has always been shown to be an extraordinary kid with the potential to reach sky-high levels. However, while he did not have any intrinsic talent for any cursed technique, Yuji excelled in other things.

Over the years, fans have seen his talent grow tremendously and, at the same time, the possibilities for him to develop interesting techniques. Yuji still hasn’t manifested any cursed technique, however, there is a potential for him to gain access to multiple techniques, if he continues down the same path in JJK.

The Strange Case Of Itadori Yuji

As explained by Gojo at the very beginning of the story, those who possess the ability to manipulate cursed energy and create cursed techniques usually manifest this ability at a very young age. Essentially, if Yuji were to have a cursed technique of his own, then he would have manifested it by the time he was around 5 or 6 years old. However, with him, that never happened. This is one of the reasons why Yuji isn’t as strong as some other fighters in the JJK world. For instance, Nobara is a user of the Straw Doll Manipulation technique and she likely manifested it at a very young age. As Gojo put it, being a strong Jujutsu Sorcerer is mostly about innate talent.

In fact, about 80% of it is all about what you are blessed with. In the case of Gojo himself, he was blessed with the power to utilize the Six Eyes and the Limitless Cursed Technique. Gojo was given the tools to become the strongest sorcerer and he utilized them to the absolute best, becoming as strong as he is today. In the case of Yuji, however, he was not blessed with such abilities and, as a result, one can understand as to why Yuji appears boring on the surface. However, a deeper look at his character tells fans quite a lot about him.

Yuji is not normal by any means. In fact, Yuji is the son of Kenjaku, who fans already know to be one of the most evil characters in the story. Kenjaku himself has high expectations of Yuji and that in itself means that Yuji is special in many ways. His physical strength has already proven itself to be special, however, when it comes to cursed techniques, Yuji himself is very interesting. While he might not have any cursed techniques at the moment, there are possibilities for him to actually awaken more than one.

Yuji’s Potential With Sukuna’s Cursed Technique

Yuji will most likely have access to Sukuna’s cursed technique. This is something that has been explicitly stated in the story by Gojo and even by Shoko. Essentially, Yuji was compared to a cursed object being soaked in Sukuna’s cursed energy. Since Yuji had the potential to control Sukuna, Gojo suggested that eventually, he would have access to Sukuna’s cursed technique. Fans know that this cursed technique is one of the most dangerous in the entirety of JJK and that it has potential that rivals even Limitless to a certain extent, especially when it comes to destructive power. So, as a result, Yuji will most likely manifest this cursed technique at some point in the story.

In fact, hints for this have already been there in the Culling Game arc. Sukuna himself received a small cut on his finger after the confrontation with Yuji once he transferred to Megumi’s body. The biggest confirmation of this is the fact that Yuji appears to be somewhat resistant to Sukuna’s cursed technique. Sukuna has launched a barrage of slashes towards Yuji and has never been able to fully damage him. In fact, it was recently stated that a point-blank hit from Sukuna’s cursed technique, using either Cleave or Dismantle, would result in an instant death. Yet, Yuji was able to sustain a heavy blow to his gut and still function, which once again shows that he has some sort of resistance to this cursed technique. This would make a lot of sense if Yuji himself has the power to utilize this cursed technique dormant inside him.

Gojo mentioned after launching Hollow Purple that he did not receive as much damage as Sukuna and this was simply down to the fact that Hollow Purple was created from his own cursed energy and cursed technique. The same logic could apply on Yuji here as well, and as the story continues, fans will likely see this plot point being tackled more.

Yuji’s Potential Power Of Blood Manipulation

While Yuji might have the power to utilize Sukuna’s very own cursed technique, there is more potential inside him and it is possible that he can actually manifest another technique. In fact, he might actually have already manifested this cursed technique and that is the power of Blood Manipulation. Fans know this cursed technique to be the ability of the members of the Kamo Clan. Other than the Kamo Clan, the Death Painting, Choso, also has the power to utilize this ability. Since both of them stem from the same person, Yuji could very well end up having access to Blood Manipulation as well. In fact, Yuji was recently training with Choso and even asked Kamo for help.

The only thing they have in common is their ability to manipulate blood. In fact, in the recent chapter of JJK, Yuji might even have utilized Piercing Blood, which is an ability accessible only to those with the Blood Manipulation cursed technique. As a result, Yuji could have this power up his sleeve already. There’s a chance for Yuji to manipulate not one but two cursed techniques and that would solidify his status as one of the most incredible sorcerers in JJK.

Added to that is the fact that he could potentially gain access to reverse cursed technique and skills like domain amplification, and Yuji would then reach the same level as the likes of Gojo and Sukuna in battle, provided that he masters the techniques that he’s blessed with. Despite being ordinary on the surface, Yuji is special in many ways, and at the end of the day, this is his story. While he has been on the sidelines as a very normal and boring personality, as Sukuna put it, Yuji has a lot of potential to fulfill and he will start doing that now more than ever before.

Given that JJK is in the final stretch now, fans will most definitely see Yuji and his beaming potential being brought forward in the ongoing Culling Game Arc, where he’s taking on Sukuna, the strongest sorcerer in history. Whether or not he will be able to take him down is a different question entirely and fans will simply have to patiently wait and see what happens.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 248, is set to be January 21, 2024.
