One Piece is currently marching towards the end of the Egghead Island arc. This arc has been nothing short of spectacular over the course of the last few months and it is certainly going to get even better as it tackles its climax. Recently, Oda’s editor confirmed that bigger things are brewing for the finale of Egghead, and fans are tremendously excited to see what Oda has in store for them.
One Piece chapter 1120 was absolutely stunning in more ways than one. For the very first time in weeks, fans got a chapter with normal length, which is good news as it suggests that Oda’s health has been improving. At the same time, it also gave Oda the opportunity to build on various plot threads on Egghead, and one interesting development that has recently happened in the story has seen a member of the Vegapunks essentially becoming a part of the Straw Hats, although temporarily.
The Introduction Of The Vegapunks
The Vegapunks Joined The Story in The Final Saga Of One Piece
The satellites of Vegapunk were first introduced to the fans at the very beginning of the Egghead Island arc. When Vegapunk was first introduced, fans were shocked to see that he was a woman. This is because the very first Vegapunk that fans saw was Lilith, or, in other words, Vegapunk number 2. As Egghead continued, fans then found out that Vegapunk had actually managed to split himself into multiple bodies. This was done to increase his efficiency, as each vegapunk had a different role assigned to them, and this allowed him to maximize the power of his brain, and come up with new ideas just about every minute. This resulted in the existence of multiple Vegapunks. It was confirmed in the Egghead Island arc that there existed a total of seven Vegapunks. Six of them were satellites of Vegapunk’s own personality, with each of them having a key feature of his character. For instance, Shaka was the logic of Vegapunk, Lilith was the evil of Vegapunk, Edison was the Inventor, Pythagoras was the Wisdom, York was the Greed, and Atlas was the Rage. All of them represented a facet of Vegapunk’s own personality and did what they could to further his research.
Ideally, 10 should be enough. – Luffy speaking about the number of crewmates he wants.
Meanwhile, the seventh body of Vegapunk was revealed to be Stella, and he’s the real Vegapunk that fans had always been waiting to see in the story. Every single Vegapunk has had an exciting role to play in the Egghead Island arc, and it is safe to say that they have all impressed the fans with what they have done over the course of the last 50 or so chapters.
The Death Of The Vegapunks
The Vegapunks Fell One By One In Egghead
When the Vegapunks were introduced, fans already knew that not all of them were going to survive. This was because immediately after the Egghead Island arc began, it became clear that the Marines were headed to the island. Their goal was to eliminate every single Vegapunk and essentially ensure that he wasn’t able to complete his research. This was a very difficult task for them to accomplish, especially because Yonko Luffy was on the island as well.
However, the task became much easier when it was revealed that the Elders were going to be on the island as well. As seen in the latter half of the Egghead Island arc, all the Five Elders summoned themselves on Egghead Island and they did incredibly well in order to try and eliminate every Vegapunk, as well as stop Stella’s message. This was an incredibly exciting part of the series, and much of this battle is still going on, but the Straw Hat Pirates are trying their best to protect the Vegapunks and escape from the island.
That said, protecting the Vegapunks has not been easy for them, and it can be said that in many ways, the Straw Hat Pirates have failed in accomplishing this. For one, fans already know that Shaka is dead. He was shot through the head by none other than York. Pythagoras was killed by none other than S-Snake. Edison ended up dying rather recently after he utilized his body to provide an escape route for the Strawhats on the Labophase.
York, on the other hand, has betrayed Vegapunk and sided with the World Government. This leaves behind Vegapunk Atlas and Lilith.
One Piece chapter 1120 sealed the fate of both of these characters. As was seen in the chapter, Lilith was knocked out by Atlas, and this made it impossible for York to detect her. Meanwhile, Atlas utilized her body to stop V. Nusjuro and allow the Strawhat Pirates to escape from the labophase. Essentially, she self-destructed and sacrificed herself, which momentarily stopped Nusjuro and gave the Strawhat Pirates a chance to escape. Now, there are only two Vegapunks left, with York on the side of the Government, and Lilith on the side of the pirates. Stella, as fans know, was injured by Saturn, and Kizaru dealt the finishing blow to him. That said, Stella’s body is still with the Strawhat Pirates, and currently on the Giants’ ship.
Lilith Becomes A Temporary Straw Hat
Lilith Is Set To Travel With The Straw Hat Pirates
As is clearly implied by One Piece chapter 1120, Lilith is going to be a temporary member of the Strawhat Pirates. Fans already know that the Straw Hats have had many temporary members over the years, and now, it appears that Lilith is going to be the latest one. Fans always knew that Lilith was the one likely to survive and sail with the Straw Hat Pirates. In fact, it was clear that her personality was incredibly likable, and she spent the most time with the Straw Hats, out of all the satellites. At the same time, she also held a dream to set out to the sea, and this is the perfect opportunity for her to do so.
I leave Lilith to you. I’ll take off and make sure you make it in one piece. – Atlas
More importantly, fans clearly saw Lilith being knocked out by Atlas in the previous chapter, and this was done to avoid her being targeted by the Elders. Now, Lilith can easily set out to the sea with the Strawhats, given that she can’t be detected by anyone. The ship has already left the Labophase, which means that the Egghead Island arc is about to wrap up any moment now. The Straw Hats on the ship will definitely prevent her from receiving any significant damage, which means that her safety is more or less guaranteed at this point.
Of course, one might wonder as to what her role in the future of the story is going to be. Fans already know that Lilith and the Straw Hats are going to set out to Elbaf right now, and it is possible that there, she is going to have a very important role to play, especially when she meets Saul. At the same time, Lilith is definitely going to meet with Dragon at some point, and that is likely where she will part her ways with the Straw Hats. Until then, Lilith is going to serve as a temporary member of the crew, and that is certainly very exciting.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1120, is set to be July 14, 2024.
