The announcement of the Spider-Man: Noir series initially surprised many Marvel fans, but excitement is steadily building. Adding to the anticipation, a new rumor hints at the return of a familiar face to the franchise.
According to the latest scoop from Daniel Richtman, an exciting familiar face is set to return to the Spider-Man: Noir series. Richtman claims that The Sandman will make a comeback, though details about his role in the narrative and the actor portraying him remain unspecified. Marvel fans are already speculating eagerly about this rumored appearance.
The Sandman, the alter ego of Flint Marko, is a well-established figure in the Spider-Man universe, spanning both Sony and the MCU. He first made a live-action appearance in 2007’s Spider-Man 3 and later appeared again in No Way Home. However, it appears that the franchise is not finished with this character just yet. News has recently surfaced that The Sandman will feature in the upcoming Amazon Prime series Spider-Man: Noir, although specific details are currently scarce. Therefore, Marvel fans have begun theorizing on their own. There is widespread skepticism among fans regarding whether Thomas Haden Church, the original actor, will reprise the iconic role. Instead, they suggest a new actor will likely step into the character’s shoes, though the identity remains a mystery.
The recent announcement of Brenden Gleeson joining the cast has fueled speculation that he could potentially embody The Sandman, although details about his role have been kept under wraps. The exact role of The Sandman within the narrative of the Noir series remains ambiguous. Fans believe the character will be depicted differently from the previous movies, emphasizing that this will not involve multiverse travel. Instead, they anticipate a fresh interpretation of the character, possibly grounded more closely to his comic book origins. In this portrayal, Sandman’s superpowers might focus on his ability to transform his body into solid stone, granting him invulnerability. Furthermore, fans speculate that Sandman will not be the primary antagonist in the series, but rather a secondary threat.
The upcoming series holds many details still under wraps, promising a darker and grittier take within the Spider-Man universe. Set against the backdrop of 1930s New York City during the Great Depression, it follows an aging private investigator portrayed by Nicolas Cage. This character not only battles criminals but also confronts his own turbulent past, all while acting as the city’s only superhero. While the protagonist is supposed to be Peter Parker, speculation among Marvel fans suggests the series might reimagine him with a completely fresh identity, diverging from traditional narratives. Alongside Cage and Gleeson, Lamorne Morris is confirmed to join as Robbie Robertson, adding to the ensemble. Behind the scenes, Oren Uziel will helm the series as both writer and executive producer, collaborating with the acclaimed producers of Into the Spider-Verse, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, as well as former Sony executive Amy Pascal, who also joined as executive producers. As of now, an official release date for the Noir series has yet to be announced, but it is set to premiere exclusively on MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video.
