Highlights
- Bounty system in One Piece reflects strength accurately, but flaws lead to unfair spikes in bounties.
- Characters like Eustass Kid and Jack have bounties that don’t match their actual strength levels.
- Buggy’s luck catapulted him to Yonko status, resulting in a bounty higher than deserved, unlike Usopp.
In One Piece, pirates and criminals are assigned bounties on the basis of their accomplishments and notoriety. Most of the time, the bounties given are accurate, and they reflect an individual’s strength fairly accurately. But the system is not perfect, and there are certain flaws that cause unfair spikes in some bounties.
Ever since the time-skip, it has become apparent that some of the characters have received a higher bounty than they actually deserve. For this reason, these characters are considered stronger than those who have a lower bounty. So, there is no doubt that these One Piece characters should have their bounties.
5 Eustass Kid
Bounty: 3,000,000,000 Berries
Eustass Kid is the captain of the Kid Pirates and a member of the Worst Generation. Back when he arrived on the Sabaody Archipelago, Eustass Kid had a bounty of 315 million berries, which was a lot, especially when compared side by side with other Supernovas. The high bounty implied that Kid was extremely strong, and he did put on a good show against the Pacifista and the Marines. Fast-forward to the end of the Wano Country arc, where Kid managed to secure a bounty of 3 billion berries.
This meant a spike of over 2.5 billion berries from his last bounty. While Kid did warrant an increase, there was no way that his bounty should have been the same as Luffy, who took down Kaido in 1v1. In contrast, Kid had to team up with Trafalgar Law to beat Big Mom. It is worth remembering that it was Law who dealt the final blow to Big Mom, and he was the one who kept Big Mom’s homies from helping her. A bounty of 1.9 billion would have sufficed for Eustass Kid.
4 Jack
Bounty: 1,000,000,000 Berries
Jack was an All-Star of the Beasts Pirates who was responsible for the destruction of Mokomo Dukedom. After being tipped off by Kanjuro, Jack visited the Minks in hopes of finding Raizo. However, he was met with stiff resistance from the Minks, who refused to let the pirate have his way. Jack was confident in his strength, but he couldn’t beat Nekomamushi or Inuarashi. To finish things quickly, Jack used the poison gas and mutilated the two rulers.
Following his failure on Zou, Jack returned to Wano, where he was unable to make any kind of valuable contribution. He was ruthlessly beaten up time and time again, eventually being defeated by Inuarashi. Considering his underwhelming performances, Jack’s bounty should be nowhere near 1 billion berries.
3 Buggy
Bounty: 3,189,000,000 Berries
Buggy is undoubtedly the luckiest character in One Piece. Before the Marineford arc, he was a mere prisoner in Impel Down. When he participated in the Summit War, Buggy became famous around the world. The first benefit that he received was a spot among the Shichibukai. Buggy used this opportunity to start a mercenary service.
The abolition of the Shichibukai didn’t affect Buggy in the least, as he was given a place among the Yonko. Buggy’s inclusion meant that he was one of the fiercest pirates in the world. As a result, his bounty was increased to 3,183,000,000 berries, making him one of the most sought-after pirates in One Piece. However, it is quite apparent that Buggy has no business having a higher bounty than the likes of Luffy, Boa Hancock, Crocodile, Zoro, Sanji, etc.
2 Usopp
Bounty: 500,000,000 Berries
Usopp is the sniper of the Straw Hat Pirates. He joined the crew after Luffy felled Kuro in Syrup Village. As the son of Yasopp, it is obvious that Usopp’s sniping skills would be elite. Usopp awakened his Observation Haki in Dressrosa, where he used it to take out Sugar before she could turn Law and Luffy into toys.
Since the Dressrosa arc, Usopp has hardly done anything remarkable. He has lost fights and had to be rescued by his friends. Currently, Usopp has a bounty of 500 million berries, which is higher than Franky and Brook’s bounties. While it is not as high as some of the other characters, Usopp’s bounty should be lower than that of his fellow Straw Hat.
1 Trafalagar Law
Bounty: 3,000,000,000 Berries
Trafalgar Law captained the Heart Pirates and led them through the tricky waters of the New World. Initially, Law came off as cunning and cold-hearted, but he has shown a great deal of concern for his crewmates and allies. As a member of the D family, Law is strong-willed and not ready to run away from a challenge.
Coming into the Wano Country arc, Law’s bounty was 500 million berries, which made sense considering he was responsible for the Rocky Port Incident and the downfall of Doflamingo. In the arc, Law’s opponent was Big Mom, but he was unable to fight her by himself. Luckily, he got backup from Eustass Kid, and the two utilized their Devil Fruit awakenings to vanquish Big Mom. While Law did most of the work, it wouldn’t have been possible for him to take down the Yonko alone. So, his actions did not justify him earning a bounty of 3 billion berries. His lack of strength was proven when he encountered Blackbeard near Winner Island, a fight that Law ended up losing.
