The fearsome and beautiful Nobara Kugisaki is brought to life in hammer-dropping Jujutsu Kaisen cosplay.
Uploaded on Reddit by skillful cosplayer Kawabarker, the Kugisaki costume recreates the first-year student at Jujutsu High’s school uniform and clearly references her unique brand of sorcery through the many nails floating about. The costume-making master has crafted plenty of cosplays for other prominent anime icons like Makima from Chainsaw Man, Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and the titular sword-wielder from Akame ga Kill.
Kugisaki is introduced early on in Jujutsu Kaisen’s storyline, serving as one of the plot’s main trio. Alongside fellow first-years Megumi Fushiguro and Yuji Itadori, the young sorcerer faces deadly curses and gets mixed in the plans of the villainous Kenjaku and Ryomen Sukuna, the undisputed King of Curses. In particular, Kugisaki has become a fan favorite and a popular addition to the modern anime/manga landscape because of how she continually challenges antiquated perceptions of gender. Notably, during her fight with Momo Nishimiya during the “Kyoto Goodwill Event” arc, she gives a monologue about loving all aspects of herself, and the speech serves as only one example of Kugisaki’s feminist appeal.
Nobara Kugisaki Comes to Life
Fans of the hammer-wielding sorcerer will see more of her exploits now that the second season of studio MAPPA’s award-winning anime series has debuted and simulcast on Crunchyroll. Asami Seto (Spy x Family) has reprised her role as Kugisaki alongside Junya Enoki (Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon) as Itadori and Yūma Uchida (I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss) as Fushiguro.
However, the first chuck of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 delves into Satoru Gojo’s past and his time as a student at Jujutsu High alongside his best friend, Suguru Geto, who eventually becomes a dangerous enemy. Adapting the “Hidden Inventory/Premature Death,” the first episode introduces viewers to a young and overly confident Gojo. Episode 2 is slated to drop on July 13; the second half of the season will depict the events of the “Shibuya Incident” arc.
The Jujutsu Kaisen manga by Gege Akutami first appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in March 2018 and is expected to conclude sometime this year. Considered one of the shōnen’s genre Dark Trio, the series has sold over 80 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga in history alongside classics like Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist and Takeshi Konomi’s The Prince of Tennis. VIZ Media distributes Akutami’s story in North America.
