Everyone in a relationship, take notes from Heaven Official’s Blessing’s Hua Cheng because this is how you melt your partner’s heart.

Heaven Official’s Blessing Hua Cheng may constantly tease Xie Lian, but he has never been anything but sincere regarding the former Crown Prince. The Ghost King has numerous iconic lines, and one Heaven Official’s Blessing fan with the username shieru (@/hualian_exe) has highlighted one of them. In Volume 2, Xie Lian considers his words carefully before telling Hua Cheng the dangers of placing all of one’s hope on a single person and lifting them on a pedestal because “you’ll be very disappointed” once you get close enough to them. However, Hua Cheng gently tells Xie Lian, “I don’t care if anyone else is disappointed. But to some, the very existence of a certain person in this world is in itself hope,” hinting he has such a person in his life.

This exchange becomes all the more important as the storyline of Heaven Official’s Blessing continues, and more information revolving around Xie Lian and Hua Cheng’s past is unveiled. Before becoming a twice-banished-thrice-ascended god, Xie Lian was known as the darling of the heavens and the beloved Crown Prince of Xianle and as such many people regarded him as an all-powerful being. From his time as a Crown Prince to his current status as a god, Xie Lian has always aimed to help the common people.

Hua Cheng’s Dedication to Xie Lian

On the other hand, Hua Cheng has known only cruelty and neglect from people from a very young age. Everyone seemed to believe he carried bad luck wherever he went. His perspective changes when he witnesses Xie Lian at the parade. As the Ghost King Crimson Rain Sought Flower, Hua Cheng holds nothing but contempt for anyone who is not Xie Lian.

Fans were already swooning at seeing Hua Cheng’s lines on paper, and they expressed utter delight when they heard Ma Zhengyang, Hua Cheng’s voice actor, deliver those words in the birthday video tribute featuring possible scenes from Season 2 of the donghua. Season 1, adapted by Haoliners Animation League, first premiered in October 2020, initially on Funimation.
