The following contains spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1086, “The Five Elders,” by Eiichiro Oda, Stephen Paul and Vanessa Satone, available in English from Viz Media.

Chapter 1085 of One Piece finally settles the fan debate regarding the Five Elders’ fighting abilities, and it does so in a very One Piece way. First, it shows what unfolded during King Cobra’s audience with the Five Elders and Imu. Given that the monarch has already learned about Imu’s existence and the dark secrets of the World Government, even he is convinced that he will not get out of the room alive. However, in exchange for learning the truth about the name “D,” King Cobra also reveals the secret behind the centuries-old letter. It turns out that Nefeltari Lily’s full name is none other than Nefeltari D. Lily, meaning the entire Nefeltari family bears the same name.

However, just as Imu and the Five Elders are about to kill the Alabastan King, Sabo steps in, even attempting to assassinate the highest-ranking Celestial Dragons. Unfortunately, he fails. He tries to save King Cobra instead, but his efforts are in vain. Their adversaries are far too strong to escape. Knowing this, King Cobra simply asks Sabo a favor, urging the revolutionary to pass on a message to Luffy and Vivi. He wants his daughter to know her rightful name. Meanwhile, Vivi is also entangled in some sort of trouble. She has been captured by CP0 and is on the verge of being sold as a pet. Before she meets such a terrible fate, Wapol coincidentally wreaks havoc, giving the princess a window to escape.

Chapter 1086 shows the conclusion of the Reverie without disclosing the monarchs’ decisions on a number of issues. Given that King Cobra and Princess Vivi have simply disappeared in the middle of the event, their constituents are panicking about their wellbeing. They tirelessly search for their location, even causing a ruckus around Marijoa. Meanwhile, numerous other characters are on the move as the royalties of various countries return to their respective kingdoms. These stowaways include the missing Princess Vivi and King Wapol. The two royalties have boarded the Eigis Kingdom’s ship.

While on board, they discuss their current situation. Wapol wants Vivi to return to their ship, but the princess refuses, knowing that the CP0 is hot on her tail. Meanwhile, Vivi wants to get her hand on a transponder snail so that she can inform her people about her situation, especially her worrywart father. Wapol advises her against that since he personally witnessed what transpired inside the room.

As Igaram and the others search for their kingdom’s royal families, the World Government is on high alert for a number of people. They are not only searching for the missing Vivi but the members of the Revolutionary Army as well. Of course, their search is bound to be unfruitful. Sabo has already boarded the Lulusia Kingdom’s ship, while Jewelry Bonney has boarded the Tajine Kingdom’s ship. As Sabo waits for the ship to sail, he is once again reminded of King Cobra’s dying wish.

In this flashback, after news of King Cobra’s death has spread all over the world, the Five Elders and Imu discuss their current affairs. They talk about Sabo and his checkered fate, as well as their plan to utilize one of Vegapunk’s creations — the so-called Mother Frame. Imu wants to use it, albeit with its lack of experimentation. The target of its first usage is none other than the Kingdom of Lulusia, which can be remembered to have been eradicated with a single blast. With that command, the Five Elders oblige.

The chapter also takes this opportunity to introduce the characters constituting the Five Elders: St. Jaygarcia Saturn, St. Marcus Mars, St. Topman Warcury, Ethan-Baron V. Nusjuro and St. Shepherd Ju Peter. Other than Lulusia’s grim fate, Imu has another command in relation to Vivi. However, before the ruler can finish their command, the chapter shifts to the Navy. With the numerous changes that occurred in Reverie, the Marines’ forces are spread thin. They have been tasked to quell the flames of rebellion in various countries while making simultaneous arrests of the disbanded Seven Warlords. This is also when they bring out Vegapunk’s Seraphim.

Finally, the narrative shifts back to the present. Sabo tells of how the Kingdom of Lulusia has been prepared to enact their rebellion, immediately capturing King Seki and Princess Comane the moment they arrived. They accept Sabo’s help, and that’s when the revolutionary learns the news of his supposed crime. Because of this accusation, the people of Lulusia brand Sabo as a hero. They cheer him on and ultimately decide to join the Revolutionary Army’s cause.

Since Sabo can’t find a transponder snail to relay his message to their headquarters, he can only utilize a relay signal. That’s why the signal has been pinpointed to Lulusia instead of his true location. He then describes the harrowing weapon that engulfed the entire kingdom. According to him, a massive shadow loomed above Lulusia before ultimately eradicating it. Sabo then concludes that it’s not something any living being can produce.

However, what catches Ivankov’s attention isn’t the weapon but Imu’s name. Apparently, there is a monarch among the original 20 that goes by the name St. Imu of the Nerona Dynasty — and there is supposed to be a way to live for eternity, which possibly means that Imu has lived throughout the Void Century. While it’s still pure speculation, Ivankov raises a valid point. The Five Elders are supposed to be the highest-ranking Celestial Dragons, so the only one who can possibly lord over them is somebody of that high a caliber. Furthermore, Ivankov skillfully deduces that the weapon is created by Vegapunk, as well as the fact that it’s an Ancient Weapon.

Meanwhile, in Marijoa, the Celestial Dragons are causing an uproar due to having no food. All that’s available to them is cake. However, the more pressing issue is that one Celestial Dragon has just been executed: St. Donquixote Myosgard. The one who executed him for protecting Shirahoshi is St. Figarland Garling, the supreme commander of the Holy Knights.
