A hilarious and cheap cosplay perfectly highlights One-Punch Man’s Saitama’s most recognizable feature.

The image, which user Garoukaral posted to Reddit, shows a shaved head with a well-placed light bulb that comes together to recreate a panel from the manga perfectly. The cosplayer explained in a comment that they have done “some hard work” to recreate Saitama’s physique but bemoaned that the fact that “his body if too perfect and unattainable.”

One-Punch Man Champions the Average Man

The ongoing One-Punch Man manga by One, which is currently on hiatus, first appeared on Shueisha’s Tonari no Young Jump website in June 2012, and the series has produced 27 volumes worth of content so far. The narrative follows Saitama, who begins the story as an average Joe before he discovers the joys of battling and defeating monsters and villains. While not inherently gifted with superpowers, he achieves incredible strength by completing 100 sit-ups, push-ups and squats and running 10 km daily. One-Punch Man has sold over 30 million copies globally and received a nomination for an Eisner Award in 2015.

One’s manga received an animation adaptation that originally aired for two seasons between October 2015 and July 2019. Studio Madhouse (The Vampire Dies in No Time) produced the first season, with J.C.Staff (The Executioner and Her Way of Life) taking over the animation for Season 2. The show stars Makoto Furukawa (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury) as Saitama. While there was confirmation for a third season, at the time of writing, little information is actually known about the project.

One-Punch Man Fans Flex Their Creativity

Garoukaral’s low-budget cosplay isn’t the only funny piece of fan-made content that spotlights Saitama in all his bald-headed glory. Notably, toward the end of last year, the Etoilec1 Animation YouTube channel uploaded an animation that sees the hardworking superhero face off against Dragon Ball‘s food- and battle-obsessed Son Goku. The brawl includes a wealth of over-the-top action and contains references to both iconic anime.

Moreover, fans of One’s work have more to be excited about than just impressive cosplay and fan-made videos. Earlier this year, the mangaka revealed his next project — a series titled Ka-Ra Hai — and the Anime News and Facts Twitter account posted the project’s cover, which features a stone-faced youth in front of a crumbling cityscape. Ka-Ra Hai is expected to be a one-shot and will debut on April 27.

VIZ Media distributes One’s manga series in North America, and the One-Punch Man anime adaptation is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
