Besides the shocking season finales and the strong characters in each season of Netflix‘s Stranger Things, it’s fun to come up with theories about what’s going to happen or hear what other fans think. Since details before each season arrives are often sparse, viewers are left to dream up the perfect storyline and hope that their predictions are going to come true.

Given the high number of storylines in every season of the show so far, it makes sense that there is a possible plot hole about Will Byers (Noah Schnapp). It also makes sense that fans have put forward a lot of theories as they really want to know what the focus of Stranger Things season 5 is going to be. One theory about the next group of episodes is especially engaging.

A Stranger Things Season 5 Fan Theory Suggests A Unique Time JumpEleven (Millie Bobby Brown) in Stranger Things season 4

Redditor @Pianist_Nuggest wonders if Stranger Things season 5 could go back in time. The fan wrote that after watching episode 9 of Stranger Things season 4 called “The Piggyback,” they noticed a memorable and potentially important conversation between Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) and Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer). Nancy says:

“When I was a baby, I actually crawled backwards… You know, I’d push with my hand like this. Beep. Beep. Always in reverse, you know.”

The fan wondered:

“My theory is that maybe time will be reversed to the same day Will went missing like time is paused on that same day in the upside-down.”

As the Stranger Things season 5 premiere is called “The Crawl,” this theory makes sense and could make for a fascinating storyline. If this fan theory comes true, it could give everyone more information about Will’s disappearance since people still want to know why he was the one chosen at this particular time. Fans may be unsure about how long the episodes should be, but many agree that after watching the series finale, they shouldn’t feel confused about anything. Traveling back in time would give viewers the answers they’re expecting and would also be fun since it would feel nostalgic.

If someone else goes missing in Stranger Things season 5, which is another interesting fan theory, then it would be even more logical to go back in time to when Will was in the Upside Down. This would tie the two storylines together perfectly. Even if this fan theory doesn’t happen, hopefully Stranger Things season 5 does touch on Will’s season 1 storyline at some point. While it’s scary when both Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) and Will are stuck in the Upside Down, it’s possible to argue that Max’s time there is even more terrifying because of what fans learn about Vecna. This adds another layer that isn’t there in season 1.

Several fans like this theory and think that it could work. Redditor @SaladConstant7176 replied that they think the theory is smart and wrote:

“I wonder if they already have secret footage filmed from years past or if they’ll use similar de-aging technology like they did on El for the massacre scenes in S4… as far as a time jump goes, backward is the way.”

Redditor @ringoisking agreed, “Since we first heard about the time skip idea, I haven’t understood the concept of time going forward, as Hawkins is such a mess. I feel like we’d miss out on a lot of stuff if they skipped a few months or even years. A Back to the Future type event where they travel back to 1983 would be great IMO!”

While fans debate the conclusion of Stranger Things, everyone wants more information about Stranger Things season 5. Since almost nothing has been revealed, it’s interesting to hear about the various fan theories that are out there. However, the Duffer Brothers have given a few interviews about Stranger Things season 5, and they have shared a few clues here and there.

In an interview with The Guardian, Matt Duffer said:

“This season – it’s like season one on steroids. It’s the biggest it’s ever been in terms of scale, but it has been really fun, because everyone’s back together in Hawkins: the boys and Eleven interacting more in line with how it was in season one. And, yes, there may be spin-offs, but the story of Eleven and Dustin and Lucas and Hopper, their stories are done here. That’s it…”

While fans might not know much at all, they will continue to make predictions and wonder about what’s coming. Viewers want to know if Stranger Things season 5 could take place following the apocalypse or if the main characters will stay in Hawkins. When the series finale is available on Netflix, fans are crossing their fingers that everything will finally be wrapped up.
