The following contains spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1062, "Adventure in the Land of Science", by Eiichiro Oda, Stephen Paul and Vanessa Satone, available in English from Viz Media.

One Piece is renowned for its expansive world building, and with its massive world comes a slew of titles highlighting notable characters that will play important roles in the series. Among the Worst Generation, X Drake, Apoo, Hawkins, Kid and Killer are already expounded on in the "Wano Country" arc. Now, it seems to be Jewelry Bonney's turn to tell One Piece fans her story.

Like most of the Worst Generation members, Bonney made her debut in Sabaody Archipelago, where they were hunted by the newly-introduced Pacifistas. She helped Zoro back then by using her Devil Fruit powers to become younger and act their way out of trouble. She was next seen during the Reverie, where she pretended to be one of the monarchs and snuck into the Celestial Dragons' domain.

The Return of Jewelry Bonney

The Big Eater recently returned to the manga; upon reaching Egghead, the Straw Hats took notice of an unusually large and floating warm eddy. Luffy immediately realized that a person was trapped inside. Zoro then cut the blob of water, freeing her. The mysterious person was none other than Bonney. They were then attacked by a vicious robotic shark, forcing Bonney to depend on the Straw Hats. After a series of unfortunate events, Luffy, Chopper, Jimbei and Bonney were separated from the other Straw Hats, allowing the two captains to get acquainted with each other.

Bonney told the Straw Hats that she had been in Egghead during her childhood. According to her, Egghead was nothing more than an ordinary laboratory back then. She then explained that the only reason she returned to the futuristic island was to get answers from Dr. Vegapunk. She even planned on murdering the scientist should their answer not meet her satisfaction, and she had a valid reason for it. Dr. Vegapunk supposedly turned her father into a cyborg, but not just an ordinary cyborg. He had been completely mechanized to the point of losing his human consciousness. As such, he became nothing more than an unthinking human weapon.

Expanding Bonney's Backstory & Character Arc

Chapter 1062 doesn't make it hard for readers to guess who Bonney's father is. After all, the former Warlord Bartholomew Kuma is shown behind Bonney as she expresses her woes. They clearly have a relationship close enough for Bonney to avenge her father's pitiful fate, which is unlike most father-child relations in One Piece. Bonney being in Egghead as a kid proves that their connection with Dr. Vegapunk goes from way, way back. It may even be possible that they treat each other as a family, which may explain why Kuma readily agreed to be the scientist's experiment model.

Even though Bonney and Kuma started walking different paths, that doesn't mean they have cut their ties. Bonney may even be acquainted with the Revolutionary Army through Kuma, and it is proven during her actions in Reverie. At that time, she was pretending to be one of the monarchs. She slipped through the Navy and infiltrated the Celestial Dragons' domain. However, One Piece shifts back to Wano after revealing Bonney's dramatic reaction to seeing Kuma being treated as a toy. Chapter 1062 reveals that Bonney met Sabo in Marijoa, albeit only in passing. They may have worked together to escape that accursed territory, since it was earlier revealed that the other revolutionaries left without him.

Jewelry Bonney may be one of the most unassuming among the Worst Generation, but she turns out to have an extraordinary background. In an unprecedented twist, Bonney turns out to be Bartholomew Kuma's daughter. She may also have a connection with Dr. Vegapunk, since she is still willing to give the scientist a chance to explain. Finally, Bonney also shares a connection with the Revolutionary Army. It may be due to Kuma, but she has definitely worked with them to save the cyborg in Marijoa. So while Bonney's fighting prowess is yet to be shown, her connections to various big names in One Piece easily make her a notable character.
