Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen will feature more scenes exclusive to the anime.

At Anime Japan 2023, Jujutsu Kaisen hosted a panel where various cast members talked about the upcoming episode. Yuichi Nakamura, who performs the voice of Satoru Gojo, indicated that the second season will have more "anime-only" moments, according to a translation by Myamura (@/king jin woo). The voice actors have already started recording the upcoming episodes, and Nakamura noted that he consistently compares the manga to the sequences from the adaptation. According to the manga, "this time there is more content," he remarked. "If the improved direction of the anime can be appreciated by the manga lovers, I'll be happy. Several aspects of the episodes, besides the fighting, will also be flashy."

The "Kaigyoku/Gyokusetsu" and "Shibuya Incident" arcs will be adapted for the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. The former, dubbed "Hidden Inventory/Premature Death," transports the story 11 years back to 2006, when Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto were students at Jujutsu High. The arc in the manga is 14 chapters long. When asked about voicing a younger Gojo, Nakamura said he tried to portray the sorcerer in a different way than he did in the first season. "I have to remember that he's in the process of becoming the Gojo we know," he said. "He's still inexperienced, but he already comes across as very confident, so I tried to play him by emphasizing that sense of superiority."

What's Going On in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2?

A trailer shown at Anime Japan 2023 revealed some of the shenanigans Gojo and Geto got up to as kids. The suspense builds as the video depicts some intense fights, foreshadowing Gojo's fight with Toji Fushiguro. A key image shows the two sorcerers running out in front, grins on their faces wide, while mayhem unfolds behind them in a shower of broken glass.

Shta Goshozono, who directed several episodes from Season 1 as well as episodes of Ranking of Kings, will take over as director from Sunghoo Park. The rest of the voice cast, including Takahiro Sakurai as Geto, who recently left his talent agency, will return for the second season. Because of his 10-year extramarital affair, several anime projects, including Mononoke, have dropped Sakurai from their cast lists, citing how keeping Sakurai as the Medicine Seller would contradict the story's feminist themes.

Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen premieres on July 6 in two parts.
