The trauma of having the death of his friends on his hands has never left Denji, as shown in the latest chapter of Chainsaw Man.

Chapter 126, titled "Food Fight," of Chainsaw Man takes readers into the events directly after the previous installment when Denji made his glorious return as the titular character during a battle against the Falling Devil. One of the villain's powers is her ability to force her victims to relive their worst memories. Despite everything he's experienced and the betrayals he has suffered, the memories the Falling Devil presented him with are the deaths of Aki and Power.

As some fans have explained, Denji hasn't had any time to grieve their losses, and he'd rather cut up his brain than face his trauma. Many Chainsaw Man enthusiasts have pointed out how Denji made it a "rule" to mutilate his brain, indicating how this is likely not the first Devil that has tried to use psychological attacks on him.

Denji's Day Keeps Getting Worse

Whether mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto will deign to give both his characters some kind of reprieve remains to be seen. The author never shied away from putting his characters, and readers, through the wringer in Part 1 and Part 2 is no exception. As the second part of Chainsaw Man only gets started with the appearance of the Famine Devil and Falling Devil, it looks like there's still a world of pain in store for Denji.

With over 23 million copies in circulation, Chainsaw Man is one of the best-selling manga series of all time. The story has collected numerous awards including the Shogakukan Manga Award in 2021 and Best Manga at the Harvey Awards for two consecutive years. Chainsaw Man follows an impoverished teenager named Denji who has the ability to change into a Devil called Chainsaw Man. While Denji's quality of life vastly improves after he joins the Public Safety Devil Hunters, he has also opened himself up to getting hurt by both villains and those he cares about.

Chainsaw Man updates weekly, and sometimes biweekly, on Viz Media and Manga Plus. The next chapter will release on April 18.
